I'd be pretty surprised if they didn't keep Eddie around for another season.

Dear Billy is the best episode of this show, and Max is the character I most relate to. Holy shit. Phenomenal character work and writing.

Alright so we watched the last 3 episodes tonight. Wasn’t the plan, but after watching 5 and 6 we couldn’t resist.

    Holy shit that was wild.
We figured out pretty quickly that the blonde dude was 001, and then we said maybe he’s Vecna, but the Lab was in 1979 and Vecna’s first attacks were in the 50s so it didn’t make sense and we wrote it off. Did not see the twist with him being Creel’s son coming.

a little confused as to why he had these powers naturally and not as a result of an experiment like El, but am willing to look past that.

I did nail that El didn’t kill the kids when they dropped the first 8 minutes on YouTube. But I originally guessed a gate was opened and a demogorgan was responsible and that was their first contact with the upside down. But once we were getting the backstory on 001 and Vecna at the same time it became obvious she was gonna use enough power to send him through a gate.

Super excited to see the 001/Eleven rematch now. Also really intrigued to see how Vecna fits into the world of the Upside Down vis a vis his “relationship” to the Mind Flayer. Are they working together? Is he just doing his own thing? Where is the Mind Flayer currently? What was that in the Russian prison in the trailer? Etc

Was not expecting that to be the last we saw of Team Russia and Team California. Def thought we would check in with one of them one last time before the end.

Also wonder how they’re gonna get Nancy out of that trance.

Also wonder why/what purpose that Upside Down Cerebro serves. Like why does he need to “connect” to the hive mind of the Upside Down to get to peoples minds and etc.

I’m also intrigued that all the parents are dragged into it a bit too. Will be interesting to see how the satanic panic ends up playing out.

Reading back through the thread a bit…

    1. El’s story has been awesome not sure why everyone’s hating on it. I did NOT expect Brenner back so soon and to be helping El. They did kinda gloss over that trauma he caused her a little bit

    2. I think it’s obvious what happened with the gate. It opened temporarily for the first time and Brenner realized what they stumbled onto and he continued working kn El’s power and to use it to get her to explore this. Remember when she opened the gate originally, Brenner didn’t seem all that surprised by the Demogorgon in Els searches. Like they were actively looking for it.

Just finished. Episode 1 and 4 were so incredibly good. 4's getting a lot of credit for obvious reasons, but I can't get over how perfectly they nailed the direct shift to horror in the opener. Chrissy also shocked me.

The rest was pretty good. I think some of the things people here hated have been fine - the Russian sideplot specifically has been pretty fun. Murray is a treasure and more good Hopper is good. Susie's house was funny and was a perfect pastiche of a specific kind of 80s/90s kids movies, and I'd slot Argyle in there similarly as well.

On the flipside, I'm not totally sure the end of episode 7 worked for me. Felt excessively expositiony honestly. Beyond that, I've never been that invested in the 11 vs some kind of direct, lifelong monster nemesis story potential, so my initial reaction is disappointment that that seems to be the reason for everything in the show. Not a dealbreaker, but I feel like it made the world smaller.

It would be a shame to kill Steve, he Robin and Dustin (and their respective friendships) are so clearly the best characters.

I definitely have a fondness for long exposition type scenes at the “end” of things. This is sort of a chest because it’s not the end of the season, but I’ll count it anyway.

I think I figured out why I really enjoy those type of scenes and it’s all because of Harry Potter. All the talks with Dumbledore at the end of the books always hit good, the Lost Prophecy chapter from Order of the Phoenix in particular. Or even the speech Harry gives to Voldy at their final battle. And I just realized that this is kind of similar to the shrieking shack scene from Prisoner of Azkaban in that it’s a lot of exposition that makes earlier events be seen in a new light that then sets up the final part of the story.

On my second rewatch I was able to notice that when the Creels enters their new home, Henry looks completely disinterested in the background while the focus is on Alice and her saying it’s a fairy tale. Then during the scene where Henry kills his mother, probably not noticeable to everyone, is that during that sequence they never show how Henry is reacting. They only show Alice and Victor’s face. Henry’s face is not cut to or clearly seen in any shot the time Victor explains it. Maybe some people caught that, but I didn’t.

I have more of a feeling that Steve is going to die and Eddie becomes the babysitter. The romance with Nancy just does not bode well for him. And Robin becoming friends with Nancy gives her a new connection to the group. It makes sense. I'm heartbroken but I totally see it coming.

Rewatched the ending, definitely think the Mind Flayer influenced 001 as soon as he entered that house. They have the upside lights flashing in the empty bathroom before he discovers the spiders that guide his whole twisted world view, and he has no powers displayed before that moment. Also shows why he uses traumatized victims, his motivation is to pick off the weak one by one as a superior predator. And there's definitely, definitely going to be more happening with his mother, they had to have left that out on purpose, wouldn't be surprised if she's related to 11's mom, with the unconditional love 11 had as a contrast for the lack of love he felt from his parents.

I still want to know how all of their powers are connected because it seems like they used 001 to give the others powers somehow, they definitely have to be all connected to this other dimension, which I also have no idea how 11 accessed that early when opening the gate later completely changed everything, why does this time opening a gate just burn up one guy and nothing else happens?

I feel like we have to see Steve's parents at some point right? they've been mentioned a lot for characters that have never shown up on screen, also he's pretty much the main character now

I think Steve dying makes the most narrative sense. I hate saying that. But this show really needs a Charlie Pace moment to raise the stakes and emotion going into the final season and I really can't think of anyone else they could kill.

I really can't imagine this show killing off any of the Main 10 before the end of the series. It would throw off the chemistry of the show completely. Plus with how hard they're pushing the Steve/Nancy romance, there's no way this season doesn't end with them back together.
