Thrice has only done it on their vinyl releases right? I have TAI, Beggars and Vheissu on vinyl and those have notes, while the cds don't I'm pretty sure. I don't have TBEITBN on vinyl so I'm not sure if notes are in that one or not.

I have an Artist in the Ambulance special edition CD that has notes, but yeah I think the rest are just on vinyl. As far as I know, the TBEITBN vinyl doesn’t have any. I still haven’t read the ones from Major/Minor.

I liked the read a lot. I was surprised to read that Dan wrote all of How Can We Go On. If that is the case, then Dan needs to write more SOTY songs :-)

Ryan saying he felt like the album needing more guitar made me sad though. Like.... replace more electronic bits with guitar if you really felt that way.

I never got too into these guys, but I’m immediately really digging this album. What’s another good album by them I should check out? I’ve really only heard the big early career singles.

I'd say The Black Swan, although it's heavier.

    Sleekest of beaks. So Good.

The Black Swan or Page Avenue would be good starting points, but In The Wake of Determination and The Constant are also great.

I find it strange in that Fuse interview that Dan says that in the past they wrote music to win people over and to chase trends. I wonder what he's referring to, because I definitely don't think any of their albums are guilty of that. They never made Page Avenue Part 2, which they could have done.

    Sleekest of beaks. So Good.

I thought that was weird to, and then I read the write up for Goodnight, My Love

"The last couple of records had a lot of social and political lyrics, and I think it didn’t really connect much with people. So I wanted this one to definitely be as personal as possible instead of what’s happening in the world. I think there’s a time for both, but it was time to focus on that. This one definitely relates to my kids again, as well as my wife. Just my whole family and the struggle of how can I support them, what is the future and losing your mind in the process. It’s about going f-cking insane and all you want to do is take care of your family. But it’s not an easy process in the music business nowadays. Anything artistically in that world…it’s like the wild wild west out there."

So maybe he meant it more in the themes/lyrics?

Interesting. I hope they aren't completely done with social/political lyrics. I think if they have a good balance of both lyrical styles on the next album, it would be perfect.

Sounded to me throughout the track-by-track that they felt the time was right to do a more personally driven one with more anthemic songs instead of heavy social/political. I'm sure they will do more of both in the future.

I'm on Miracle on the track-by-track and it's cool that he said the riff is an homage to Anberlin. It's become one of my favorites on the album.

I remember reading and hearing here and there that with TBS and Constant they toned it down a lot to make some hits like the PA days, since ITWOD turned a lot of people off because it was metal \m/

But seriously, I think in the post they put out years ago about Adam leaving said they wrote a lot of the constant with that in mind to get another big hit since they hadn't had one since PA. made me feel so bad for these guys.

It really is a shame. They deserve to be a huge rock band. I hope they never get so discouraged that they hang it up. The fans that they do have are die-hards.

For sure, I know both of us have already said this but I honestly have no idea how the antidote, wake up or I'm alive were not huge radio hits.

It sounds like they did the right thing this record and just wrote it for themselves. It would be cool if it got some radio play/success as well. I'm just glad to have a new kick ass SOTY album in my life.

The Eternal Battle for Mike Cronin's Soul is like the ultimate amalgamation of all their previous work. Can hear bits and pieces of PA, Black Swan, Wake, little bit of Constant. Soooooo goood

the ships have all sailed to the sea

Definitely one of my favorites, along with How Can We Go On, Miracle, and Praying for Rain. Those songs are definitely making it onto any "best of SOTY" playlists in the future.
