You aren’t alone in feeling that way upon an initial reaction. I loved it immediately, but others had similar comments to yours.

Before watching it again, I would recommend looking up and watching the Rebels Recon on the episode and then watching it again with the knowledge and context they drop in that.

edit: screw it, this made me want to watch the Rebels Recon.

Totally get that reaction, I felt the same way for a split second, but as soon as I sat down to think the more I loved the decision.

okay that explanation actually checks out a lot for me. That was a really cool, and in hindsight, thoughtful decision that I didn’t consider.

Watching it with that context a second time today, i enjoyed it a lot more. The look at his feat, reading the move to come, and just countering it right away...i liked that a lot more this time.

Hell yea! I won’t pretend to have understood all they were going for on my initial watch, but I had some vague feeling that matched up with what they said. Once they stated exactly their intent how I felt made total sense.

I’ll be honest I (and so many others) had the initial same reaction because you build it up in your head for the action but the more I experience it the more I love it. All about the subtext.

It’s the ultimate realization of the dichotomy of their characters/their relationship and who’s embraced change. Seeing the maturity of Obi-Wan and the stagnancy, obsession, and lack of growth of Maul (the sisyfus of the Star Wars universe, the fight should be that short. True master swordsmen knew how to defeat opponents quick and this showed Obi-Wan as that. Not to mention the urgency of defending Luke. Also seeing the compassion he treats Maul with after beating him is beautiful

Yea, their conversation before and his treatment after says so much.

I was almost expecting him to offer Maul a meal before their battle. I kinda liked Maul let Ezra go too. I thought that whole portion was very interesting.

do we think there’s a chance of Maul showing up in Kenobi? I know that the Rebels confrontation is wayyyy down the timeline, but I’d really like to know what they were planning for him after showing up in Solo.

Not putting it past them to shoehorn Maul in, but Twin Suns doesn't really make sense if he's already found Kenobi on Tatooine before

When you think about what Mauls done to Kenobi to and responsible for the death of his master and the one he loves in Satine that final embrace between them is even more powerful

It’s possible. But it couldn’t be on Tatooine.

something happens to Mail in between Solo and his reappearance in Rebels that we don’t know about as far as I know to strand him on Malcore. And he has reason to believe Obiwan might be dead. There could be a story there, but who knows.

Mail def thought he was gonna quickly kill Obiwan and be able to catch up with Ezra. He was grossly overconfident.

If anyone here is into those art of the movie books, Amazon is currently running a buy 3 for the price of 2 deal. From what I've seen The Last Jedi and Solo art books are available in that deal (plus maybe some of the novels?). It'll tell you under the price which ones are part of the promotion. https://amzn.to/2QX5XA4
