Much as I haven’t been into much of the new Star Wars, she’s doing fine. It’s mostly just not for me.

Marvel and Star Wars have both been at their best (Black Panther, the Last Jedi) when filmmakers who are functionally sound and uniquely stylistic with ambitious thematics got to do more or less what they wanted without worrying about what connects their movies to everything else. Those are exceptions to the norm though, and I do think the Maul cameo is a potential signifier that the Star Wars cinematic universe may resemble Marvel quite a bit.

 

Off the top of my head prediction: Maul cameos in the Boba Fett movie, and they make a Han Solo/Boba Fett movie where they team up to take him down, maybe both are hired by Jabba, and Emilia Clarke’s character dies doing something redemptive to help Han, and Han double crosses Boba/Jabba, it costs Boba a shitload of credits or his “honor” or something so he makes it his personal vendetta to take down Han, Jabba puts that astronomical price on Han’s Head, and that’s their connective tissue to setup the Han from Solo to the Han from A New Hope.

 

Eh, I’d have some real issues with Han fighting a powerful force user and then not believing it at all like 8 years later.

 

Totally agreed. Marvel/Harry Potter was filling that hole for me in the dark times, before the Disney buyout. But since I first saw TFA, honestly since Force Friday even, SW easily took its rightful place back in my heart. I was a very consistent critic about doing a Solo movie, and while it wasn’t amazing, my god it won me over.

 

Going to try to snag a VIP celebration ticket tomorrow. I’d really like to be at those panels and not have to wait overnight like a savage.

 

Kelly Marie Tran reportedly deleted all of her Instagram pics because of the non-stop harassment she has received. Why do men hate her so much?
Every post from a guy under tweets even about this story of her deleting her pics always include the qualifier “I hate her character, but etc” trying to position themselves. Absolutely unbelievable. Not only that, but there’s also the Rebel Force Radio continued drama, the same crowd asking for KK to be fired and replaced with a man, they don’t let up. They are everywhere too, under every SW tweet, Instagram post, ready to post something negative. Look on YouTube at all the “Why TLJ is bad” videos and how they are everywhere. So much negativity over fiction. It’s so bizarre! They drove Daisy off Instagram, harassed John... I’m not sure what can be done but it’s so sad.

At least we have Celebration! By all accounts, those who have been say that it’s full of so much positivity which is awesome. Hoping to secure hotel rooms today when they go up.

 

What's the drama with Rebel Force Radio? From looking at their Twitter all I can see is that they called out Chuck Wendig for "attacking fans"

 

Yeah, they went after Wendig since he was calling out abusive fans and things have spiraled out from there... they seem to think that artists should put up with harassment. They have this weird sense of entitlement.

So many Star Wars fans didn’t deserve new Star Wars. Kelly Marie Tran and the Last Jedi are gifts.

 

The fact that Kelly and Daisy basically can’t participate in social media because of trolls bums me the fuck out. Daisy bounced really quick around TFA’s release I think.

 

Daisy left once people harassed her about her views on gun violence (around the time Detriot was released). Rian disabled comments on most of his Instagram posts as well. If you look at the Instagram post celebrating KK’s bday... you see these guys out on full force. I love SW, but these are fictional films. They seem to lack any self-awareness.

 

I shouldn't be surprised Star Wars has such an awful fanbase, but it's super disappointing

 

Always ironic when "fans" can't apply the lessons that the thing they love teaches. Pretty sure one of the central messages of Star Wars is that hate will only destroy you.

Exaxtly. I don’t understand how people don’t see this. This war in the fandom is another Taoistic example of light vs dark side. Attachment and fear of losing that (in this case losing their love of Star Wars) leads to the dark side, hate, and suffering. Even if you think you are the “light side”, pacifism is like the climactic principle of the Jedi.

 

This really bums me out. I like to think that the love they get from people allows them to bare the hate, but it’s still got to mitigate your love and passion for Star Wars and wanting to continue it.

 

These shitty people make me embarrassed to be a star wars fan. It also highlights just how poor of a job social media companies to at moderating hateful speech and harassment.

There’s are industry’s rumors going around that KK will be announcing a successor this coming September, maybe not fully stepping down until after Ep 9. She’s tired of the negative press and the demands of traveling constantly from LA to London, being on set for hours, etc. This is being reported from The Ankler, so I don’t know. Take it w/ a grain of salt for now I guess.
