Ooo this makes me feel better. Thanks.

Honestly Ive never met a celebrity in my life other than Mike Miller from the Cavs a couple years back in a mall (which obviously isnt much) and I freaked out then. Thinking about being face to face with anybody from Star Wars is giving my anxiety lol What the fuck do you say to Mark Hamill or Ewan McGregor? Do you bow to them?

Finished reading Thrawn yesterday and really enjoyed it. Might read Zahn's Thrawn trilogy soon too.

  8. People wanted an ObiWan movie? Ew. No thanks. Already had more than enough of him.

Number of Star Wars projects announced/made by Disney: I think 11

Number of white guys hired to write/direct them: I think 17

Number of non-white, non-male creatives hired to write/direct them: 0

Josh Tank is working on Boba Fett? Eh.
James Mangold has me hyped, though.

I couldn’t care less about the character of Boba Fett. I wouldn’t care a lot about Obi-Wan either (although I’d be more invested in a Kenobi film). Let’s get films between the events of VI and VIII or before episode I. They’ve done enough stuff between episodes III and IV.

    Love James Mangold but
    a) Boba Fett movie? Fuuuuuuuuck that
    and
    b) Hard not to be worried that the Lucasfilm machine will chew up and spit out any great filmmakers that are hired

Pretty sure Lucasfilm is just going to milk OT characters for as long as it's profitable, then they might start taking more risks with the spinoffs. I know Rian Johnson's trilogy is supposed to be a new thing but it sounds like that's pretty far off

He was initially hired to do a Fett movie a couple years ago, but he was fired/it dissolved around his F4ntastic movie.

We’ll probably end up getting an Obi Wan series but it’s gonna be like Seinfeld and set in that diner from attack of the clones.

It's the MCU. Every now and then there'll be a gem when a great filmmaker gets to do their thing (I love the Last Jedi and Black Panther), but it's gonna be surrounded by a lot of bland, maybe entertaining, mostly forgettable, audience-pleasing tepidness and a lot of really interesting directors aren't going to be given the chance to create their vision (DuVernay, Wright, Lord & Miller) while a lot of hired guns paint by the numbers and make the same movie over and over again with different textures.

Well said. And as someone who’s not a fan of the MCU in general I couldn’t be less enthusiastic about this

Yea, if you look at these forums and other places people were hoping that would be the final spin-off of this phase. I was more interested in it until his Rebels episode. That was really the perfection story to tell with that character and it is probably one of the best pieces of canon to come in the Disney era.

Still, they did enough interesting stuff with Obiwan in Clone Wars and Rebels that I’d be far more excited for that than Boba Fett.

If we’re getting a Star Wars movie every year until long after I’m dead, and the Wachowskis never get a blank check to use Star Wars as a playground for a movie, I have no idea what the point of all this is.

Their track record has kind of been going down since the original Matrix... so that’s a hard pass for me.

Their track record isn’t any worse than plenty of the directors who Disney’s already been hiring. Speed Racer is great. Cloud Atlas is fascinating. Sense8 was unique. If we’re getting 15-25 movies over the next 15-25 years full of hired guns doing standard studio Star Wars blockbusters, I would just like one every once in awhile where unique, stylistic auteurs get to make Star Wars look like it’s never looked before. It’s a universe of infinite possibility, show it. Not many would be better at that than the Wachowskis.

I’m down for a different type of Star Wars, but let’s leave it to someone more talented.

Plus, after the reaction to TLJ, I would assume they will play it safe for a pretty long time. There are too many “fans” who freak out over very small things.
