Read the recent canon Thrawn books by Timothy Zahn.

    Book spoilers:
Zahn has been building to something incredibly similar to the Yuuzhan Vong storyline but with a new alien species called the Grysk from the Unknown Regions. I dunno if it'll pay off in future books or tv series or movies or what, but they're setting something crazy up with that.

it is Thrawn's entire motivation for joining the Empire is to make the rest of the Galaxy strong and stable enough to defeat a looming Grysk invasion, and keep them from destroying the Chiss Ascendancy, and he believes only the Empire is capable of that

Pretty much all the main players are dead or don’t exist haha I know you didn’t mean adapting it as is or anything though. Just thought it was funny. Ironically, the one bigger character that dies in the first book is alive in the movie still while others…. Not so much haha

it doesn't matter that the species is different. They're setting up and laying the groundwork for massive invasion of the known galaxy from a basically completely unknown ultrapowerful alien species. It isn't exactly the same thing, but they're not going to do that AND the Vong.

Then it’s basically just like a very loose adaption of the framework of the story. Just one aspect of it really. Everything else would be very very different. Which isn’t a good or bad thing on its own. We shall see.

We'll see they're going to definitely follow up on it. Whether they follow up on it only in future books/comics, or they make it a part whatever they're doing with Thrawn in the New Republic Era live action stuff I am still not sure.

The “point” isn’t that he was wrong in TPM, it’s whether he is now lying or not. We don’t know for sure either way yet.

At worst he’s lying, at best he’s naive. Neither is a good look for the Jedi and especially the Council.

The entirety of the prequels wasn't a good look for the Council

The Clone Wars either. There is a whole thing in season 6 where the Council finally figures out that Dooku and the Sith were the ones posing as Syfos Dyas and ordered the clone army a decade prior, and the Jedi decide it is for the greater good to cover that up and keep that secret because it would cause chaos. Guess which Jedi is one of the most vocal about covering up that the Sith manufactured the clone wars? Our boy Mundi

I mean, I think Luke summed it up well in TLJ to Rey. The Jedi, at the peak of their power trained Anakin up to be Vader and let the entire government fall to Sheev. Their hubris is very clear to anyone with eyes. Which, yea, some Star Wars fans struggle with that haha nobody here of course.

Yeah the counsel failed in being aware of their surroundings. "Peace" had cost them and allowed the sith to return right under their nose. The ROTS novel does a good job with Yoda realizing this during his fight with Palpatine.

This whole "Disney Star Wars sucks" bullshit. Like yeah some of the sequels and a few of the live action shows haven't been the best; but the animated series are incredible, the books are great, the comics are good. Are those not also "Disney Star Wars" ? and those make up far more of the current world building within the canon than any of the live action stuff does.

despite opinions on any one project, the overall effect of Disney's Star Wars output the past decade has been a net positive for the franchise. printed and interactive material has obviously been plentiful for years, but aside from the first 6 films, TCW, and the legacy shows/TV movies currently being labeled Star Wars Vintage (all of which were more or less released sporadically), we've never had such a large on-screen presence. people begged for years for a live-action TV show, and now we've got tons of them - some of them being considered the best SW material to date! the animated shows have likewise been incredibly well-received. despite their overall mixed reception, we got 5 new films over the course of 5 years, which would've been unheard of years ago, and generated excitement for a franchise people thought was dead and buried after the prequels (FWIW, i will go on record saying i enjoyed all 5 of the new films - and tbh every other SW project i've seen - to varying degrees, although i definitely have legitimate criticisms of them too). even if most of this content is relegated to a couple periods in the timeline, the creatives behind it are telling new stories while attempting to honor everything that's come before, the stories you grew up with. in theory, there's never been a better time to be a Star Wars fan, because every project and every era are getting a chance to shine and be enjoyed and expanded upon. there's something for everyone.

now is every project going to land with its intended audience? no, and healthy critique can be useful. as more projects are released, Lucasfilm has gotten a feel for what's been successful and what they could improve upon, and uses that feedback to craft even better stories. everyone is allowed to like what they like, and not like what they don't like, and engage in healthy discussion about it. that's ok! what's not ok, however, is the constant chastising people for like something you don't, belittling creatives for "breaking" an already questionably-consistent "canon", and shrouding your hatred for anyone who isn't a White, cisgender, heterosexual, able-bodied male as "honest" criticism. it's "honest"-ly fucking stupid and dangerous. the only thing you achieve by it is ruining engagement with the franchise, driving prominent non-male and BIPOC actors and creatives into a depressive state (or worse), and giving everyone else who likes Star Wars a bad name. Disney isn't gonna capitulate to your criticisms no matter how many snarky social media posts, comments, or videos you create. at the end of the day, is this what you want to be known for? are you gonna be on your deathbed thinking to yourself "i'm sure glad i bitched about Daisy Ridley and Amandla Stenberg on Instagram so many years ago"? that's fucking stupid. just admit you're a shitty person, that the content isn't for you, and move the fuck on. George Lucas isn't gonna descend from his $4 billion throne and suddenly tell you "you're right, Star Wars is too woke. Ki-Adi-Mundi shouldn't have been alive yet. i made a mistake". he's gonna tell you to get off your high horse and get some help.

idk. i'm more or less happy with everything we've gotten, and am thankful that Disney breathed new life into this franchise, for better or worse. like everyone else, i'm just tired of the same old song and dance from these kinds of "fans". we all know it's ultimately a fruitless endeavor creatively, and at its worst has harmful ramifications for the safety of those behind these projects.

I thought of another time they changed lore from something in the movies and nobody complained. When in The Clone Wars revealed the clones did Order 66 because they had control chips in their brains. Before that if you just saw the movies you'd assume they did it willingly, Filoni changed that.

I always assumed it was a brainwashing thing that was activated by the words “order 66”. Made it seem pretty spooky.

I agree, I've enjoyed most of what has come out. But I'm also going to enjoy pretty much anything Star Wars and watch it. And yeah, this is an absolute golden time to be a fan as there has been non-stop content being released for the past 10+ years now, not to mention toys/collectibles, 2 theme park lands, a themed hotel/experience, etc. etc. that have all been coming out. Plus, 3rd party people have been making some incredible replica collectibles too that have come a long way over the years
