as long as the quality of output is high, idc how many they make. Whos to say someone doesnt pick this up in 8 years and make episode 10-12, and continue the stories?

They will absolutely do it, regardless of what they say now.

The idea of the Skywalker saga continuing in any way would mean that either there's a secret kid we don't know about yet or Kyle and maybe Rey end up together?

Ugh, no thank you. Just move on to a different story line.

Agreed. I’d rather just ditch the current numbers. As i said earlier begin new sagas maybe restart the numbers for each saga. Can still take place after 9. But I don’t wanna continue this until Episode 23 ya know

Lucas' idea of changing the name of the original to Episode IV is probably the dumbest thing he did in the first place.

Eh. Of all the bad decisions he’s made I think that’s fairly down on the list for me. I kind of dig the episodes.

I'm down with there being episodes, but starting at 4 (after the movie had already been released) just lends to having to have the prequels and to me, prequels aren't interesting seeing as there's really not much, if any, anxiety in watching the story we already know develop.

Like, he could have had A New Hope as Episode I and then do one great movie as Episode 0 or something.

I just don't believe that he had much of the overall story even thought of or planned before he made the first one.

Pretty sure he had the six pretty much planned out in terms of broad strokes. He only did 4, then 5-6 first because he knew technology/money wasn’t where he needed it to be for the prequels. He goes into detail about it in one of the documentaries released with the box set. Haven’t watched it in a while cause I lost it a few years back

I don't know, I just don't believe Lucas in general. I think he had an idea for a movie and it was wildly successful, so he changed the title to Episode IV and just started adding on.

trying to imagine him doing the prequel trilogy first in the 70s, then doing new hope, empire and jedi in the 2000s.......it's weird to think about lol

I've never really believed Lucas when he's said he had the whole overall story for SW figured out ahead of time.

    It just doesn't make sense.

Are there any prequels about characters that are in the original movie that has actual tension for those same characters? Like, going into the prequels I knew who was going to live or die and where their stories were going to go, etc...

Same for The Temple of Doom. We knew Indiana was going to survive but the others? Who cares, right? Idk, could be just me on those.

I think good prequels are the ones that either go so far back that their relation to later films is nearly inconsequential (Prometheus) or the main story line isn't related to the next film nearly at all (Red Dragon).

Anyone else have any other ones?

Considering in IV, he definitely didnt know Vader was going to be Lukes father and obviously Leia wasnt intended to be his sister. "There is another" was also supposed to be someone else entirely Ive heard. That said he may have had a blueprint for the prequels. Who knows

Yeah, I doubt he planned for Leia to be his sister all along either.

Just to be clear, I still like the original trilogy and the two new ones so far. I just always hated the prequels and even the idea of doing the prequels, haha

  18. Prequels are worth it for the clone wars series and ahsoka

I actually dont hate the idea. I actually think the ideas and the story itself of Palpatines rise to power is one of the most brilliant things in the franchise. It was just executed very ineffectively

It's so weird because I feel like if George Lucas' heart had been in directing those films I do think they could have been on par with the other SW films. He has been pretty open about the fact that he didn't want to direct them and even tried to get other filmmakers to come in and direct them but ultimately ended up doing it himself when that didn't work out. I think the fact that he didn't really want to direct them comes through on the screen, especially in the actor's performances.

I am not a big fan of prequels in general as I think they are kind of a creative dead end and void of a lot of dramatic tension by their very nature, but they can be done well, and as Dodger said the overall story arc is sound and could have been amazing .

He planned on making 9 movies, with the final trilogy being luke’s search for his sister (not leia in the original plan) or something like that

And write them. Pretty sure he’s been on record saying he hates writing dialogue. It seems like even despite all that he didn’t want to relinquish any creative power to the story.

I had never heard that part about him not wanting to write them. I suppose that makes sense when you look at his tendency historically
to come up with the story & characters but then bring in a screenwriter to actually write the script. He's such a funny guy. He is legit the most financially successful filmmaker of all time yet he really seems to not like a lot of the nitty gritty aspects of filmmaking, like directing actors and writing dialogue.

This is fantastic. I can’t wait to see how they use Carrie and Mark in 9. Hard to top this moment. There are going to be more tears that’s for sure!

Yeah i don’t have a source but i just remember hearing not even for just the prequels he doesn’t like to write dialogue. I think he just likes story telling more than anything else. I think that’s why The Clone Wars turned out so well. He got to do the big picture story telling and be the big head honcho but Filoni was really the director and trusted him with the mythology enough that he wouldn’t taint his vision.
