I didn't feel like this was as big a slap in the face to TLJ as folks were making it out to be.

The lightsaber seen seemed like a nod and in line with Luke's humor.
Rey's parentage doesn't discount that the next heroes don't have to be from these bloodlines.
Rose gets nothing to do, but I thought she should have died in the last one based on her ship to ship save of Fin.

The big misses for me
No seeds of palpatine in the earlier movies
Snoke...so dumb, and kinda kills the throne scene
Hux...underdeveloped and should have had a larger role as the spy or not at all
Deaths - Chewie, 3PO, Fin, Kylo pre force heal. The lack of real consequences is hard to stomach


But sincerely liked this more than I assumed I would.
I'd like to never see a Death Star, SkyWalker, Palpatine on the big screen again. tho

 

At this point I just hope I don't despise this movie a year or two from now when I want to watch some star wars stuff. This has soured my taste for clone wars/vader comics and all, need a break for a while lol

 

I just hate how shitty the overall fanbase is. It's fine to not like the last Jedi, or this, or the force awakens. But attacking the directors, actors, etc because it didn't go the way you wanted is terrible. Don't like it, give actual critiques, that's fine.

I'll move on and be excited for the clone wars, obi wan series, mandalorian, etc.

Apparently Jannah WAS supposed to be Lando’s daughter and they just cut it. Lol.

 

I will still fundamentally disagree with the story choices that they made with this film, but I honestly would love to see an extended version and think it would greatly improve things. The way the movie is edited and the ridiculously fast pacing make it feel like they know that the story is wonky and they wanna just blow it past you as fast as possible and before you notice. Which, after reading that Chris Pine quote, seems like something JJ Abrams legit does knowingly and even purposefully. I always thought maybe it was a weakness he didn't realize. I missed the moments where the film slows down for a minute or two. Force Awakens is fast paced but I feel like that film still had these types of moments sprinkled throughout.

I do realize extended cuts aren't really a thing they are doing with these movies, I'm just saying.

The prequels might be better than this movie, they likely aren’t, but I'll never know for sure because I'm not going to watch any of those four movies again.

 

I just did all three (ROTS for the first time in full since the theater) leading up to this and I can confirm this was still better by a wide margin. AOTC is truly a cruel and painful experience.

 

I must concur with this.

 

Around the lead up to the Force Awakens my girlfriend and I watched the original trilogy, then she’d never seen the prequels so we were going to watch them, and we didn’t get far into the Phantom Menace.

I’ll give Star Wars this though: it gets so many people to willingly watch and rewatch movies they know are really terrible

The only way I can ever see myself watching any of the prequels again is if my niece and nephew get super into the series and want to watch every single one. And even then I’d probably have to duck out at regular intervals to drink and cry.

But I am grateful to them for giving me so much experience in not letting later films ruin my enjoyment of what I know and love. I never look at Vader in ANH and think he’s the same dork who talked about sand all the time, and I won’t watch TLJ and worry about the choices in this.

 

LOL I don’t. But the end shot is the same. Again. Hah. I was just trolling with that post though.

 

Saw this again this morning. Enjoyed it a hair more, but yeah, don't really need to see this ever again. Ugh.

Honestly, if you held a gun to my head right now & told me I had to go to a theater tonight & watch either this or The Phantom Menace, I’d pick Jar Jar.

 

that scene between the two of them was so weird as Lando was definitely giving sex eyes or perhaps he's just sexy and everything he says screams sex sex

 

Phantom Menace has higher highs, but it also has much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much, much lower lows.

 

I enjoyed all of the prequel movies over this.

 

Man the more I think of this....I just get more mad.
