Rian Johnson will be doing an interview here today. Tons of great guests and for a good cause (Make-A-Wish). Gary Whitta will be on at 2pm. Seth Green, the cast of Andor, and lots of Star Wars authors.

  6. Five years since I had the profoundly strange experience of walking out of the theater assuming everybody would love this as much as I did... then opening Twitter.

Same! If you told me this would be the most divisive movie in the franchise the first time I saw it, I would have thought you were insane.

Someone on here said it was divisive so I went into it expecting to see some divisive stuff.

But in all seriousness, I enjoy rewatching this more than TFA. The throne room scene…chef’s kiss

    They don’t understand Luke Skywalker.

Do or do not, there is no try.

I don’t really like the “what if” scenarios but I wish RJ had done VII, so he’d have set up where all characters were going.

I love Last Jedi but I agree with Rose/Finn storyline being meh. Both deserved better in my opinion. I also don’t love the space chase and I hate what they did with Hux. I also didn’t love Phasma coming back for nothing really and the deleted scene where she drops Stormtroopers should have stayed.

Love Rey/Kylo story, Luke’s journey, Crait, Throne Room and I love Admiral Holdo and the “Gods speed Rebels”, which is probably controversial to some.

I then hate that they flip flopped back to JJ and undid everything interesting for fan service and a head scratch of a movie overall, in IX.

Give me the Universe where RJ did all 3.

I say that being a fan of JJ and loving Force Awakens. TFA midnight showing was probably the most excited I’ve been in a Cinema in the last decade.

I still enjoy IX but I enjoy anything Star Wars for the most part. Even Episode II :crylaugh:

I remember leaving The Last Jedi blown away because they did all the things I thought they would do in the third film.

When Snoke died, I was floored. I was like "Holy shit, did that just fucking happen?"

I left feeling like I had absolutely no idea what to expect for a finale, and I still don't, because ROS doesn't exist.

It really is a shame we’ll never know what happens after The Last Jedi. Just a real shame.

  18. Doing a trilogy with three different directors and screen writers was stupid when you didn't have a a comparable person to that marvel guy ensuring it all didn't end up sucking.

We got a great movie, a decent movie, and an all time bad movie.

The question I have is do you prefer what we got, knowing how it ends but we have the last Jedi, or would you prefer a different trilogy all together that is more cohesive but is three fine movies.

In that scenario I’d probably prefer 3 fine movies if it produced a nice cohesive arc. I’m hard to both please and disappoint when it comes to cinema and most things tend to go over my head so I’d have appreciate a nice steady ride.

I'd keep what we got. TFA was maybe the most fun I've had at the theater on opening night and is still just a joy to watch. TLJ is damn near perfect. And TROS sucks but still some enjoyable stuff in it here and there

    Keep what we got.

You can easily just forget TROS and have TLJ be the ending. A new war begins. The rebellion is reborn. Luke goes out giving the galaxy one last story of hope from the legend of Jedi Master Luke Skywalker. Plus, he does this while saving his friends and not physically fighting Kylo. Saving his death from being on his conscience. Yet, Kylo, embarrassed by his defeat on Crait turns evermore to the Darkside. Rey Carrie’s on the legacy of the Jedi. Leia, ever there rebel, remains in the rebellion, but begins to pass things off to the next gen to ensure her legacy endures.

Like Leia said, “we have everything we need right here.”

"Cohesive" is a bad goal to begin with, imo.

The Last Jedi is the only one of the sequel trilogy I actually like, and I actively hate Rise of Skywalker, which makes it tempting to wish for an alternate timeline (even if the alternate timeline of a single director and/or producer leading the way sounds very dull). However, I was always gonna lose interest in Star Wars eventually regardless, and TLJ is truly the best case scenario for what a standalone modern one of these could be. So, yeah, content enough with this timeline.

Maybe a better alternate history to imagine is Lucasfilm & Disney moving Solo (which I also do not like!) back a bit, and then moving Episode IX a full year back, hiring someone other than Abrams, and letting the new talent take more time developing a satisfying final chapter.

I've said this on this site before but I loved both TFA and TLJ, but I also hated TROS so fucking much that I now kind of don't consider them canon personally. I'm actually planning on showing Star Wars to my girlfriend who hasn't seen any of them at some point and I'm considering not even including the ST at all because of how it ends (if she likes it and we get that far in the series lol)
