is it flawed af or are its flaws extremely overstated?

 

It's flawed af but the severity of those flaws is extremely overstated. It has a bunch of flaws that hold it back from being a great movie but they aren't so bad they make it a bad movie either. It's just fine.

You comparing it to TROS and Prometheus is a big exaggeration of the flaws it has, for example lol

 

i havent seen it since theaters but i really did have a terrible experience and i loved the other two batman movies

 

I would watch it again. It's really not a bad movie.

 

TDKR is bad and about 40 minutes too long.

 

TDKR seems quaint compared to what DC became in the years since. Would totally watch again. It’s probably Nolan’s worst but it has plenty of stuff in it I like regardless of how messy it is

 

I wasn't able to actually watch all of The Rise of Skywalker, and every time I have tried to go back and watch it I just angrily shut it off pretty soon after Palpatine is just back. In the opening crawl. No explanation. I am unable to separate the silliness on screen from the real world knowledge of how what is happening on screen came to pass. I really feel like the movie embodies every single bad trait of modern Hollywood blockbuster filmmaking taken to the absolute extreme.

I don't feel like The Dark Knight Rises in on the same level as The Rise of Skywalker. It is a flawed movie, and certainly the weakest of Nolan's Batman trilogy, but I think it suffers more from the other two movies being so good. I don't think any of TDKR's mistakes completely and utterly kill the entire story / narrative of not only the movie itself but the movies that came before it in quite the same way TROS' Palpatine return does.

Honestly, I just ignore that TROS even exists in my head. It makes me sad to think about how much of a wasted opportunity it is on so many levels.

Prometheus is probably a much closer comparison to TROS in that it's mistakes go a long way towards killing the narrative in a very similar way. I'm able to watch Prometheus and kind of enjoy parts of it, even while so much of it is so frustrating and poorly done and terrible, which is something I cannot do with TROS. Probably down to my emotional attachment to Star Wars that I don't have to the Alien franchise, even though I do like most of those movies.

Genuinely do not think there’s any other movie that comes close to rise, if only because it’s supposed to be the conclusion to probably the most famous movie series ever

 

It might be the most disappointing movie for me.

 

I feel like prometheus is 10x better than rise lol

 

The sequels are better by a mile for simply not casting a very bad actor as the most famous movie villain of all time.

 

I threw Rise Of Skywalker on in the background while doing some classwork and it's astounding just how bad this movie is scene by scene lol

edit: when the Stormtroopers magically capture Chewbacca and as they're rifling through his bag, they show him the Sith Dagger like a beat cop on a drug bust going "and what is this we have here???" lmfao

 

When I tried to rewatch I couldn't get more than ten mins in. There's probably some fun stuff in there that I forget but not worth it

 

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, but I’ve watched TRoS countless times due to my son loving it. There are enjoyable moments, but there were so many missed opportunities. I’ve pretty much accepted the movie and it’s flaws. I was never angry about it. I was baffled by choices made, but at the end of the day it’s just a movie. There’s so much more Star Wars content I can enjoy fully and love.

the sequel trilogy was always going to be a letdown because the expanded universe (legends now) was just so good. It’s too bad they didn’t use some of those stories for source material.

 

I had fun watching it in the theater but the more I thought about it the less I liked it. At the end of the day I simply don't care about it enough to rewatch it.

 

"Baffling" is probably the best word to sum up this movie. Just every decision across the board.

 

I’ve not dared to rewatch it. I think I’ll leave it a while still.

This move is brilliant. The only negative is that it was retroactively made worse by The Rise of Skywalker.

 

Yeah I want to make clear that I really like Last Jedi, my comments were about Rise.
