Gets me excited for 9. I really hope Luke is a big presence in 9. I don’t want him to fight anybody in ghost form or affect things on a physical scale like I’ve seen many do now that yoda showed that you can affect the physical world.

But I would like to see more of Luke teaching Rey. Since theres going ot be a time jump id like to see them start being shown as a really good friendship. I dont want there to be a there a thing where he first appears to her as a Force Ghost in the movie and her being surprised, etc...

Only thing is we have one movie left and you have to establish so much in this next movie to begin with with where the galaxy is, where the Rebellion is. How badly the FO has taken over. Where Rey is. And then they have to close out the trilogy. Cant imagine how they are going to do this.

I can already hear the "not enough________" complaints already.

Fun dialogue parallels from the films

Aunt Beru about Luke (ANH): "There's too much of his father in him."

Han about Kylo (TFA): "There was too much Vader in him."

Snoke about Kylo (TLJ): "You have too much of your father's heart in you."

    &
Luke to Rey: "Impressive. Every word in that sentence was wrong."

Luke to Kylo: "Amazing. Every word of what you just said was wrong."

Really enjoying the novelization. I’m surprised how long it took to get to Rey&Luke in terms of the length of the book; some aspects of the film are going to need to fly by to make up for it.

How the FUCK did they not keep this in the movie?!?!?!?!

Edit: That wouldve made that scene so much more impactful, it wouldve tied it back to TFA, it actually gives Phasma an awesome moment, its consistent with her book, and is just well shot and written. Literally the only thing that was worse was the delivery of "rebel scum"

I’m gonna do a fan edit once I have it and just throw all the deleted scenes back in to see how it plays.

Probably a time thing. This entire scene takes place over the time there is the quick shot of arose shooting at Phasma and then Finn rising back up and hitting her.

Damn, I like the way it played out in the film, but that was pretty great too.

This might be a stupid question, but is Phasma confirmed dead? I’ve only had one chance to see the film.

Maybe Im not understanding you but I think it happens after all that since Phasmas eye is showing so he had already blindsided her. All they did was replace this deleted scene with her falling through the flames and putting the Rebel Scum line before that happened.

Why did he change it? “Pacing. Entirely pacing,” Johnson says.

It just took too long to play out. “I really like the little moment of Phasma being caught and getting called out by John, and that little game of chess that they have,” he says. “But we needed a much more condensed version of that scene, where essentially it’s the same outcome.”

It just seems far more like an alternative scene than a straight up deleted scene.

It’s just too long. Phasma’s story ultimately just isn’t necessary for the movie.

I think the version they went with was probably the better choice for the flow. Maybe if Phasma had been reintroduced at some point earlier in the film, that version would have more added weight to it. But if you leave everything before that point as is, it probably doesn't work as well.

Hmm. I guess Im in the minority then. What we got in the movie in that moment was kind of underwhelming for me.

Its not just because of the design, but she is like the 4th highest power in the First Order and considering she is Finn's foil/former authority figure she should've been more intimidating and had more of a presence IMO just overall between both movies. I think bringing up that she lowered the shields and betrayed the First Order and then her killing her own stormtroopers adds a different layer. Like Finn at the beginning of the movie, it shows she lacks principle and a cause to fight for. She only fights for her own survival. In the version we got shes just his former boss who wants revenge.

Maybe it wouldve messed with the flow though. In the end not a huge deal. Im going to have to just implement these deleted scenes as my head canon because Im sure Im going to be more mad at the Luke/Rey stuff being cut more lol

I will say if they cut a scene like the one I wish we had where after the lightsaber split in half where Rey looks over passed out Kylo and has to decide whether to kill Kylo (mirroring Luke's moment and giving her empathy to that) Ill be pretty bummed.

At the end of the day Phasma is disposable. get it?
Arguing for more of that feels like arguing that a New Hope NEEDED to have that scene with Biggs at the beginning to make his death and connection with Luke stronger.

In both cases, could they have done it? Sure. But those aspects just aren’t the focus of the movie and can “easily” be cut out.

Would these movies lose anything at all if the Phasma character was completely taken out?
