The dark side is NOT stronger. Some old dude said so.

  5. This movie took place 30ish years after ROTJ and people think lukes change is over the top? Of course he wasn't going to be the same person he was 30 years ago.

  6. And Yoda says, in clear terms when asked: "No, no, no. Quicker, easier, more seductive."

Even through you’re kidding, I was hoping to see him be a little more affected by Han’s death.

  8. The most central element to Luke as a character: his decision to not fight physically, remained. His choice in how he was a hero, now twice, was so great and perfect characterization.

Wouldn't consult with Han and Leia about what? Luke said he had a feeling something was wrong but he didnt know how far he was gone until he looked. I dont think its illogical that he wanted to make sure something was up before going to them and saying "I think Ben is dark because...reasons"

I mean you could say that about a lot of things. We cant assume to know everything about the force and we cant put it in a box and define it. I agree we cant have people flying and turn Force-Saiyan or anything but I dont think its that crazy for the most powerful Jedi to ever live. Plus I think the whole balance aspect of the force is why he (and Snoke) are so powerful in this movie. IMO thats why Obi-Wan and Yoda were one of the only ones able to be Force-ghosts of the long history of the Jedi. because they knew the failure of the old Jedi ways, learned to use both sides.

as far as his death goes, they set it up earlier with Kylo saying to Rey "you couldnt do this. If you were it would kill you". The amount of effort it mustve took for him to project himself there, despite being Luke Skywalker mustve been enough. Asie from that I like that if you feel its time, somebody that strong in the Force can decide its their time and just become one with it. (Once again why only Yoda nad Obi can do it).

In the end dude, if it didnt work for you it didnt work. You cant alter your feelings about it through mental effort. I do urge you to give it another try though. Theres just a lot in this movie to digest. Pay attention to all the themes more than the plot. Where each character starts the movie. Where they end up. just have fun with it instead of (as you put it) "nit-picking"

I agree and I think JJ wouldve changed that looking back. He said the one thing hed change is him hugging Leia at the end.

It was nice to see him hug Leia in this at the end though and I definitely pumped my fist and made a fool out of myself doing it.

  13. In “Star Wars: The Last Jedi,” Luke Skywalker Finally Becomes Cool
Not everyone agrees. Some fans have sharply criticized the new movie for, among its other faults, turning Luke into a decrepit pacifist, but to my mind he’s, instead, a kind of badass Buddhist and, at long last, the first character with the good sense to point out that, for all their special powers and good intentions, the Jedi have proved to be a pretty disastrous element in the universe—what with their defections to the Dark Side and all the mayhem that’s followed. One of the themes of the new movie, ironic for a franchise still leaning heavily on fan nostalgia, is the need to finally dispense with the past. It’s refreshing to find that Luke agrees—and fitting to hear it coming from Hamill. Luke’s great act of bravery in the movie is also a product of this earned wisdom, relying on cunning and misdirection rather than gung-ho optimism or blind faith.

  14. I think it's weird to try and suggest or question things that characters should or should not have done outside of the material that exists. We know enough about these characters through books and movies to be able to discuss motivations and traits within those stories. But to try and question events that there's no story for seems silly.

could Luke, having cut himself off from the force, have known how dire the situation was in the galaxy with the First Order destroying whole planets? not to mention the prospect of Leia and Hans well being.

hiding while that genocide is going on is disgraceful cowardice. and with great power.... yada yada

Also how many movies do you think itll take a director to have a force user fly. Its going to happen one day when they run out of shit. Im thinking in Star Wars Episode 62: The Jedi Above Gotham.

Oh yeah I forgot to mention in Episode 60 we are no longer "Long Ago in a glaxy far far away". They finally caught up with our time and the "Unkown Regions" were really just the Milky Way Galaxy. And then Warner Brothers made a good Justice League movie, made so much money they bought the rights to Star Wars somehow? and then did a huge crossover with their DC characters. Superman. Batman. Force ghost Luke. Broom Kid. They are all there.

I have 4/6 of my predicitons right in TLJ so 66.67% of these predictions will come true.

I would argue that without the force there is literally no way for him to know what was going on. His x-wing is underwater, so there appears to be no way to communicate.

    He isolated himself.

Guys, I liked seeing Luke's routine with the milk and the fish, but where was the fruit in his diet? I was concerned about all his vitamins. The man should have died from scurvy.

"I said to Rian, I said, "Jedi's don't give up. I mean even if he had a problem he would maybe take a year to try and regroup, but if he made a mistake he would try and right that wrong." So right there we had a fundamental difference, but it's not my story anymore. It's somebody else's story, and Rian needed me to be a certain way to make the ending effective. That's the crux of my problem. Luke would never say that. I'm sorry. Well in this version, see I'm talking about the George Lucas Star Wars. This is the next generation of Star Wars, so I almost had to think of Luke as another character. Maybe he is Jake Skywalker."

"He's not my Luke Skywalker, but I had to do what Rian wanted me to do because it serves the story well, but listen, I still haven't accepted it completely. But it's only a movie. I hope people like it. I hope they don't get upset, and I came to really believe that Rian was the exact man that they need for this job."
