We reach for the longest shadow

What happened to Poe on Jakku? How did Chewie get Rey off Snoke's ship? I'm playing a little devil's advocate here.

How do they understand BB-8? How did Chewbacca and the porg communicate? How do crystal foxes live in a desert climate?

Rey got off by stealing Kylos ship they say that in the movie.

Poe and jokku is tfa so I’m not worried about that one, I always assumed he stole a ship and went back to the he resistance base thinking Finn was dead

Bb8 speaks a language just like artoo did.

Chewbacca and the porgs just communicate by instinct. Those crystal foxes can live anywhere

This one was actually answered, I made this mistake myself. When Kylo wakes up in the ruined throne room, Hux tells him that Rey stole his ship, implying that she signaled Chewie from Kylo's ship and they met up somewhere offscreen.

I still want to know how Rey, or any human, speaks droid beeps. Even Luke needed C-3PO to translate R2-D2 for him in A New Hope, right?

Her understanding Chewie, which was another one of the Mary Sue accusations that got thrown around, isn't as crazy to me, because they had already established through Han that it's possible for humans to understand Wookies.

While we're being nitpicky, how is everything so close on a ship that has a 60km span? When Rey escapes, she manages to avoid people for several miles of walking/running on a crowded ship? Impressive. Also does the Supremacy not have tractor beams?

Things like this don't make a bad movie in my view, but I always wonder how they work this stuff out.

how people understand droids and wookies is something i have wondered as far back as i can remember but that "plot hole" just never seemed to ruin anything for me. it just always seemed to work and nobody questioned it.

I could be wrong because people in the thread are saying it's Kylo's ship, but I thought it was Snoke's shuttle she took. If so, it would make sense it was right off the throne room, so she wouldn't be running all over the ship.

Its hard because Ill never be able to have the other perspective to compare but Im so glad I didnt. I had no scenes that I could piece together whats next. I feel like seeing those shots on a theatre for the first time felt more special for me then they would have if I saw them first in a random/haphazard way.

Also its just an awesome feeling just having no idea what to expect and builds more anticipation/tension going in because you dont have the fix of being able to watch the trailers. I recommend

Yeah Im pretty sure its Snokes ship she steals. but not 100%.

also Crait is a mineral planet. Salt. Crystal foxes.

And Phasma coming out of the flames with storm troopers after the Kamikaze. they were in the same place as Finn and Rose when it happened .Then 500 feet away unharmed out of the flames. makes no sense.

Nor does Finn dragging Rose back to the base in a couple minutes after it took them so long to fly out against the FO.

The implications of light speed travel and weapons of mass destruction probably creates alot of plot holes at any one time. I cant imagine how hard that must be to write for. At any one time why doesnt the First Order blow up where they know a rebel base is immediately etc.

It doesn't kill the movies for me, and I don't even really think it counts as a "plot hole," I just think it was jarring when Rey was able to understand BB-8. Whereas it wasn't as jarring when she could understand Chewbacca because there have always been humans who are able to understand Wookies in Star Wars.

The real craziness in TFA was how Starkiller Base managed to destroy that entire system in literal seconds. It's like the same Wile E. Coyote logic that applied to Soran's rocket in Star Trek: Generations (which RLM pointed out comically in the Plinkett review of that movie).

"It takes light 8 minutes to reach the Earth, and that's at Warp-1." haha

I don't have a problem with light speed kamikaze, but if it has been possible this whole time, it really makes you wonder about all the effort put into destroying the death stars when you could've driven through them at any point.

well yeah but that would require sacrificing giant ships each time, if you can blow it up another way that just seems more cost effective for the rebels bottom line. a lot of overhead leading an alliance i have to assume. aint nobody got budget for just wasting away giant cruisers willy nilly like that.

Does JJ (during the commentary) expand upon what Maz means exactly when she is talking to Rey (Dear child, I see your eyes - you already know the truth. Whomever you are waiting for on Jakku, they're never coming back" Rey cries "but, there's someone who still could. Rey - "Luke" Maz - "The belonging you seek is not behind you, it is ahead.”) or someone come across something regarding this scene? She def means Luke right? Why not just say yes, Luke ha
Also is there much JJ commentary during the weird flashback/flashforward scene in TFA with the knights of ren?

If I could just forget it

    From Wookiepedia

As Starkiller Base was charged through the power of stars, it gradually blocked out sunlight until, running at full capacity, it extinguished it completely, leaving the surface in darkness. In order for the weapon to fire, its weapons engineers would induce a breach in the containment field, allowing the collected dark energy to escape the core through the hollow cylinder opening on the antipodes of the planet relative to the stellar collector. During this process, the dark energy transformed to a state known as "phantom energy", and left the planet behind, tearing a hole through hyperspace along a perfectly linear path. The people stationed at the Base called the dimension through which the phantom energy beam traveled "sub-hyperspace", and this method of delivering the payload was near-instantaneous across vast distances. The rotation and inclination of the planet had to be taken into account for the weapon to target something, and also the lack of obstacles between it and the target, as the phantom energy beam would only be intercepted by an object of sufficient mass (like a planet). When the phantom energy struck a planet, the interaction produced enough heat to ignite the planet's core, creating a pocket nova. The space-time disruption caused by the phantom energy's passage would make the nova instantaneously visible thousands of light years away, for a short time.[3]

    So I guess that's that.

I guess you have to take everything with a grain of salt in these movies.

To me the interesting things are the character interactions, not the space wars. I think the space wars have to be cool but without a great dynamic between Kylo and rey this isn’t a good movie

i'm worried that Maz was introduced as a character who clearly knows shit, and has answers to a lot of things, but we will not spend any more significant time with her.

unless we get a whole Maz movie some day. Which I'm fine with.
