Empire Strikes Back = A New Hope
    Return of the Jedi
    The Last Jedi

then Rogue One is significantly better than the Force Awakens but I'm not crazy about either. The prequels aren't worth mentioning.

I really like the opening scene of RO on the black sand planet.
Wish that cassians intro was a bit longer and we sat more of that asteroid planet he was on.

    My biggest RO gripes are
they jump to a lot of different planets very very quickly.
Forest Whitaker’s character is a little too ridiculous.
And the truth seeking alien just makes me laugh when I see it. Ha

I just did a rewatch of all of them.
May be the last time i watch the prequels ever again.

Will say that Return of the Jedi moves farther down my list every time I watch it.

The tone of that movie after ESB really doesn’t work for me.
Plus the Ewoks Using nets rocks and logs to beat the empire.
The overall violence is really toned down (especially on Endor). And it makes me want to pull my hair out.

Same. Though Jabba’s floating palace battle is probably my favorite action set piece of the series.

Next time I watch RotJ ill just skip through the ewok battle.

Jabbas palace is maybe my favorite segment in all the films.

Just throwing in my two cents that I think The Old Republic would work much better as a live action TV series. Definitely hope RJ's trilogy goes in a new direction.

I've still not went for my second viewing yet, but this movie is all I have thought about since my showing. Very few films / tv shows have done that for me, let alone a Star Wars movie.

  10. We did a rewatch of TFA on Saturday, and that movie really is incredible. It's so good. And it was playing with such high degree of difficulty and it sits in my mind even better with every (now many) re-watch.

Some were theorizing that Rey received her Jedi training outfit from the caretakers and that might be the deleted scene with Luke? Can't wait to find out

The Jabba's Palace sequence is brilliant. Leia choking her captor with the chains he uses to bind her, all the zany action above the Sarlaac pit, the humor with Han's loss of sight, is all perfect. Luke's first real mission as a real Jedi going so completely off the wall is fantastic. Then the Ewoks work well as a continuation of the Vietnam metaphor established in A New Hope, it makes the comparison more literal than A New Hope did with its jungle setting and the juxtaposition of weaponry against each other, but it mostly works for me. The final space battle and confrontation between Luke/Vader/Palpatine are perfect. They're an incredible cap to the trilogy that leads to Vader's redemption, ceding to the jubilation of the final celebration. It's not a perfect movie, but it does so much really well.

I agree on jabbas palace. Especially for Leia.
Minus the added musical number. Which is terrible

I think Vietnam metaphor is a massive stretch. And maybe a little offensive. I mean it’s quasi guerrilla warfare but the Ewoks are clearly a very simple “people”

I need a fan edit of ROTJ that makes the Endor plot way shorter and maybe shows a couple blaster shots actually hitting something.

Rewatching it after seeing TLJ makes both films better, IMO.

It’s not a 1:1 metaphor. It continues on the themes established in A New Hope, which posited the Rebels as the Vietnam parallel. So the Ewoks are just a further distillation of that, not the Vietnam representation itself

I think I’m way more skeptical that Endor and what happened really relates to that at all. I think a new hope was political, but I think that died quickly when SW became the most profitable franchise in the universe.

Call it cynical but i think they needed a new environment (sand, clouds, and ice planets had been done). Also Lucas loves the red woods. Ewoks were cheaper to make than Wookies. And a non violent teddy bear race is great for merchandising to children.
