Might as well call the movie The Last Flop (for Rian Johnson because "his career is over") amiriiiite

There was 2 films to follow up. A lot of people were disappointed they killed off Maul in ep 1.

He was still to be portrayed as the main antagonist. But that said, plenty of time for reshoots post-trailer release *cough* Rogue One *cough* or revivals for ep 2/3 etc.

God that makes me glad im not on twitter. Im not a social media guy in general but Im glad I can have meaningful and mostly civil conversation on this website with fellow Star Wars lovers who both love and hate the movie without having to deal with a lot of that shit.

I just want there to be a picture of JJ, Rian, and Mark hugging it out. This supposed “division” between the three is nonsense.

Crait level of BF2 is fantastic! But controlling the ski speeders is just as ridiculous as it looks in the movie haha.

I love when Poe’s foot busts through the floor. “Oh what the hell...”

Reshoots ruined Rogue One. And if he had copped out and brought him right back, it wasn’t really a risk anyway, was it?

I agree but point is they're common. The Last Jedi had [supposedly minor] reshoots too (surprised they didn't do more after Carrie's death).

He wasn't brought back until years after in the Clone Wars tv series, which I'm not sure if that decision even had George's input. It's still a risk to kill off your main antagonist and end on a happy note when you've got 2 sequels to follow up with. It meant Darth Maul lost his merch sales prominence and ep 2 had a find a new bad guy (Maul > Jango/Boba & Dooku).

He spelled Hamill’s name wrong and Mark just roasted him for it. It’s glorious.

Maul wasn’t the main antagonist of The Phantom Menace, though. Just like Snoke wasn’t the main antagonist of these films.

Then who was? Palpatine was orchestrating things but had a lesser role in episode 1 than Snoke did. Maul was covering the poster and being promoted as the antagonist for ep 1. In a way, you can argue It's good Maul died because it gave prominence to the real evil mastermind (Sidious) behind the prequels but in episode 1 that's still pretty much Maul.

Lucas attributed the title 'Phantom Menace' to both Sidious and Maul:
“The phantom menace is a character named Darth Sidious,” Lucas says, “who is the last of the Sith” (“An ancient people . . . conquered by powerful dark-side Jedi magic”—page 268, Star Wars Encyclopedia, by Stephen J. Sansweet). Actually, Lucas goes on to explain, the “menace” honorific should be broadened to include Sidious’s apprentice, Darth Maul, a terrifyingly fierce-looking character played by the martial-arts expert Ray Park.
George Lucas talks to David Kamp just before the release of the first of the Star Wars trilogy prequels, The Phantom Menace

The opening bombing run scene in this is just incredible. On first watch, I was kind of just waiting for it to be over because I wanted to get to Luke and Rey. But now I can appreciate it.

Yes, The Phantom Menace is the Sith, which means Palpatine and Maul, but the “main antagonist” of all the Prequels is Palpatine.

EDIT: Credit where it’s due, as the main antagonist, Palpatine is actually one of the best-developed characters in the Prequels. It’s why he’s regularly cited alongside Ewan as one of the only good things about them.

I love listening to the soundtrack, the overall tone of it is way darker than the actual movie, but it’s really well done. Leias theme is eveerywhere on this thing
