The Finn suicide run made me feel helpless kinda like how I felt in "that" scene in Spider-Man: Homecoming, but that was pretty much it.

I love that the seed is planted for Finn to question things after finding out that they supplied both sides weapons

I also really loved how they made it seem like they were going to hit some more New Hope callbacks: with Finn going down to try and take out the cannon Luke/Death Star style, and Luke with the “strike me down” line, only to turn it on it’s head

They could put a scene of the Falcon saving the day in every Star Wars movie and I don’t think I’ll ever not get a thrill and rush of excitement from it.

If the falcon ever "dies" I'll probably cry more than Han and Luke's death combined.

The character building of this movie was the first thing I enjoyed about it. I even took a mental note of it because, frankly, I wasn't expecting so much.

Man, read through about ten pages of this thread from when I exited on Tuesday, I was not expecting it to be this divisive! Though I'm happy to see it's been pretty civil (of course, I'm 20 pages behind. I hope everyone is still friends haha).

I agree this movie isn't perfect (the amount of jokes shoved in was a little marvel-esque at times), but the highs are just so damn high. I was pretty sure all the talk of "Rian made such a different movie" was just posturing because of the TFA criticisms. But damn. This was fucking different haha.

everything with Luke/Rey was great, well except the first scene. I wish he had just dropped the lightsaber instead of comically throwing it. But their conversation about the hubris of the Jedi. Him confessing he originally went to kill Kylo. Him using the force to stop himself from falling during his fight with Rey. And the force projection at the end. SOOOO fucking good.

Leia's use of the force was pretty cringe-y. I feel like they could have handled that way better. Maybe not have her so far a way from the ship and it would seem less jarring? I dunno, but it was definitely just a little too out there for me.

BB-8 was definitely a little prequel R2 this time around. Him plugging the sparks in Poe's ship, shooting coins at the guards and driving the AT-ST was a little too much.

I liked the Canto-Bight stuff more than all of you, but I agree it was definitely the weakest and most disappointing part of the movie because I was really looking forward to that world. I was hoping they would have to get in with the slicer by going in on some gambling. I liked Del Toro's character and thought the ideas of people playing both sides of profiting off war was great and paid off in the end, but the chase with the space horses went on way too long and was pretty lame. I liked it when they were rampaging through the casino though. Could have been cool if they just used that as a distraction to escape from the planet. I dunno, I didn't hate it, but it could have been handled much better.

Maz didn't need to be in this.

Loved everything with Poe and Holdo. His arc was great.

Yoda was jarring at first. But ultimately, I think it was very well done and very true to the character.

Loved the way Snoke went out. Don't get me wrong, I'll feel a little cheated if we never get his back story in the movies, but Kylo taking advantage of his hubris was fucking awesome. And that fight sequence was one of my favorites in all of Star Wars. And then Kylo staying dark and assuming the role of Supreme Leader. So great.

For the record, I really loved this.

    Also, just want to say

My one major gripe with every Star Wars movie since Empire has been that every movie was always just leading to a big lightsaber battle finish. I was hoping we'd get one of the episode movies where it wasn't the centerpiece. Didn't believe it would ever happen. This movie basically didn't even have one. Holy fuck, never in my wildest dreams did I think that would be the case. Thank you, Rian.

Just got back from seeing it. Initial impressions: I really loved it. The second half was really breathtaking and so exciting.

I have a few issues here and there bit too many jokes - Luke tossing the lightsaber was a bit eh, Leia in space, awful initial CGI for Yoda - got better as the scene went on though... kind of wonder if that was intentional, I don't know. But overall, damn did I enjoy it, especially Rose.

Kind of want to see it again this weekend, but might know I'll see it again next weekend when I go visit family for Christmas.

Rey/Kylo vs the guards is an all time Star Wars Fight. Honestly Luke vs Vader round 1 is probably the only thing better. That scene alone was worth the price of admission.

ALSO. When it shows Luke on the rock at the end staring out at the sun it looks like a ship is flying towards him out is the sun? I thought I was seeing shit but then my friend mentioned the same thing???

I actually wondered the same thing during the scene.

also really loved the scene where Holdo flies through the ships. Plus I love seeing Dern in anything. Theater was speechless during that haha

I’m surprised no one has mentioned the “cheap move” scene when R2 shows Luke the original Leia message. Smiled ear to ear.

To anyone who’s played Starcraft that Holdo scene was pretty much Tassadar crashing into Overmind. So much goosebumps.

Love Rian Johnson. Love this movie. Some scenes did feel a bit dragging but goddamn this film took a lot of risks and turns and I loved it, that was such a ridiculous thing to do. I’m glad he pulled it off.

I wonder if Episode 9 will take the same risks. I hope it does. And I hope they work.

Yea, but it was cool to see the parallel of what Snoke was saying to the saber moving.

I do agree though. i wouldve preferred if they wouldve kept showing Kylo's hand and maybe a side shot or wider shot of the focus on Snoke but if you pay attention to it you can see the saber move slightly opposed to a straight shot of the saber moving. Not a big deal.

Damn. Of the 3 books I read to prep myself for the movie I didnt read the one that had the most relevance lol The whole legend theme was touched upon a lot.
