There was a time last year when the big controversy was that Kylo Ren was a "whiny emo crybaby" and everyone hated him. Now look where we are.

I honestly feel like screen capping every bad take tweet about this movie for a year from now when they're all singing a different tune.

I was discussing this with a coworker earlier today. Rey went from chilling in Jakku to Snokes throne room in like a week (maybe two). Doesn’t really bother me, just thought it interesting.

They're upset that it wasn't in line with the dozens of hours of Youtube videos they watched heavily theorizing who Snoke is and the importance of Rey's lineage. There are things I didn't love and legitimate criticism but these people are livid it wasn't their fanfic. It's... pretty funny.

Like, do they not want to be surprised? I love the twists and turns and how risky this was.

Some really cool stuff in this but I also found it kind of universe breaking. Sorry if it's been discussed but I can't keep up with this whole thread...

Jedi and sith should have all just been turning on each others lightsabers with the force while they are still in their sheaths.

And it makes you think they should have just taken a ship lightspeed through the death star.

And after 30 years, Han and Luke both die within a few days of each other. Really shitty week.

  8. Are we sure the timelines are both linear together?

  9. It woulda been shot down before it got close enough for that to work.

In previous novels (no longer canon), many were force triggered to turn on. But the basic idea is if someone has the force, they'd have to be very distracted for something like that to work. It's why a lot of them turn off when force pulled out of people's hands/dropped/etc.

I absolutely loved this movie and it may end up being my favorite in the series. I know it’s early, but I’m truly amazed by it.

Love the detail that the First Order and the Resistance bought weapons from the same dealers

Did Rey go into the dark hole twice? Or was she just relaying to Kylo what happened that time Luke was there? I like the idea all of that happened down there when on the other end it was just a split second to Luke.

Also the death stars were the size of small planets. Not really big ships. It wouldve caused big problems, but it wouldve taken a lot of big ships doing that to truly destroy it and thats a huge risk of resources the Rebels didnt have much of.

  15. Another thing I need a second viewing to really understand. Time in general on the island felt ... weird.

  16. That too. And it's not exactly economical to use all your big ships as hyperspace suicide missions.

The transition from them talking, her falling down there, back to them talking but now inside the stone hut threw me off.

The light speed through the destroyer scene may be one of my favorite pieces of cinematography ever. That was incredible.

My entire packed theater was silent during that scene. Incredibly powerful shot.

I’m so glad Rian is coming back for more. He did an amazing job.

I was disappointed with some things (Snoke, grumpy Luke) but I had a blast. Rey and Kylo were amazing and I can't wait to see them face off in episode nine. Gonna have to see it again with my roommate to gather my opinions more

While it’s still my least favorite sequence in the film, I did like it more on the second viewing. Mostly for 2 reasons. 1) in general I connected with and enjoyed all the Rose stuff this time and she is heavily involved in that sequence. 2) the ending shot hit me way more and is set up then, and it would have not been as impactful without the set up earlier.

My guess... they had lost hope. The spark had been snuffed out.

I think we will see them come together now that Luke gave them one more “legend” to spread around. I’ll either write up some second viewing thoughts later or tomorrow morning. This was a huge part of it for me.

Do you mean like in terms of relativity? As in could Ahch-To time be passing differently than what was happening to the Resistance?

I think that’s totally a thing. I need to watch again, but the timeline with the resistance seemed to be pretty set. Luke and Rey seemed to have quite a bit more time.
