I really didn't want Luke to "die" in Episode 8 but as soon as it happened I recognised it was the PERFECT way for him to go out.

  2. I like what they did with Luke. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

We get new stories. A new fight against a new, but always the same, enemy. It's time.

I thought Luke was one of the better things about this film. I'd love to see the inbetween years fleshed out more via comics or books.

They let Luke find redemption and closure. I was pleased with old man luke. It was like his old personality was buried and kept coming out in flashes. And then at the end, it was the Luke we've known and loved.

  5. In ANH/ESB he was impulsive and wide eyed and cocky. In Jedi he thought he knew it all and ended thinking he was the shit. Here, we see life has shown him he's not that, and how he goes into the final battle/fight is a completely different kind of confidence.

Luke's initial dodge of Kylos attack where he almost slid on the ground made me audibly gasp and my friend laughed at me lol Luke's action in this was so satisfying. I do wish we couldve had Luke acutally use a lightsaber, but I think for his character this not only made more sense but gave me more satisfaction than any cool lightsaber fight wouldve.

Thank you both Rian and Mark for making Luke Skywalker even more of my favorite hero of all time

I still can't believe they brought Yoda back. And it was the hermit Yoda/Dagobah version too!

  8. Also, weird thing to say. The old movies still exist. Haha.

My only bummer with Luke was I wanted the Green Saber. But that's just me being picky.

  10. This is the Star Wars movie we needed in 2017. The story felt very prescient.

SW fans are just perpetually unhappy in my opinion.

also I get that Porgs are over-the-top cute and they need to appeal to kids and sell stuffed animals and shit but I'm on board with them

  14. I loved them.

I do wish some of the "humor" could have been turned down just a notch though. I get why they do it, but some of it felt a out of place for the time in the movie.

I love how there’s a thread in the /r/movies post about Matt the radar technician.

Nah I thought they were used perfectly. Had great comedic moments but were just kind of in the background. Loved when they were like making nests in the Falcon. Only thing that jarred me was that porg from the trailer in the final scene. didnt hate it but it wasnt funny or anything

  18. Great moment.

Agreed. Ken from Collider I thought put it perfectly. The humor wasnt bad but it just didnt belong in a Star Wars movie a lot of the time

Edit: especially when Luke dusted off his coat. that felt like a mark hamill addition

  20. Luke explaining the Force was a fantastic moment. Death/life and all of that.

So many great moments, which makes the parts that didn't work for me ... basically an entire character arc ... stick out like a sore thumb.

Yeah that was so beautifully done. Johnson gets it. I don't see how anyone could watch ESB or this movie, then watch the prequels, and tell me with a straight face that Lucas understands what makes Star Wars, specifically the concept of the Force, resonate with so many millions of people.

I think in time people will learn to appreciae this movie. It's just so weird in all the best ways and I love it. I love that they left the dice for Kylo to find. Such a little thing with so much emotional impact.
