    Agreed

I was conflicted with the turn. I love Kylo and his character and part of me was hoping he could be turned while the other part of me just wanted to see him sink even further to the dark side. Can't wait to see where his arc goes from here

The most important distinction, and the thing that makes what he did so interesting, is that it really does seem as though he is also rejecting both the Light and Dark sides. It's just, to him, that philosophy still manifests itself as evil/authoritarian. If we're making a new character alignment chart for this movie, it almost feels like Kylo is trending toward Chaotic Neutral while Rey is trending toward Lawful Neutral.

This, of course, is assuming that they aren't heading toward flipping alignments, which seemed to be what the film was hinting at when they both had visions of the other turning.

also that little moment with Hux pulling out his blaster and putting it away with Kylo waking up was hilarious lol

I love how much of a chicken-shit Hux is. One force choke from Kylo and he's like "okay okay you're the supreme leader" :crylaugh:

  7. Definitely. And the more I internalize that message the more I realize why I didn't leave with the same "high" as TFA. Which is all about making you feel very good and lifted up. And in 2017, that's not where we are, it's the movie we needed right now. And I am looking forward to JJ bringing us full circle with the final chapter. There's a lot to do in that one too, it's going to need to square some things, since this answered some questions/opened more doors.

I do like the struggle he shows, the kind of villain he is/wants to be/where it comes from/how he rationalizes it.

I understand people's complaints, but to be honest, I don't hate the force pull.

The Luke and R2 moment was great.

Also Luke shutting himself off from the Force completely was a good thing to introduce, explains so much about why he didn't know things and all of that. Abandoning Leia after her kid went nuts is a little harsh though Luke. Heh.

Both my girlfriend and I get headaches from the real D 3D. I enjoyed the movie and some 3d effects were nice but I think the 3D exasperated some of the pacing issuesy girlfriend and I had, because we just wanted the 3d headache to stop haha.

  10. Yeah, Kylo makes it pretty clear he wants to walk his own path, or thinks he's doing as such.

Which makes what happens next interesting to me: He's alone now (as far as we know), there's no other Sith that we know of out there ... so maybe he takes someone on, maybe he doesn't. Rey is not alone. Luke/Yoda/Ben/Force Ghosts are all still there and can guide her and help her. Kylo wants Rey to believe she's alone, because he is, and he knows it, and her with her friends at the end showed her she is not. She has the "family" he gave up and she always wanted.

Glad im not the only one. and yes. I love the lack of black and white in this movie. And its less about whats inside your mind and your intentions and the choices you make overall. Rey and Kylo have have so many similarities but what distinguishes them are their choices.

Both Kylo and Rey were shown in tints of dark and light. Theres a lot of bait and switches with where their paths go. The visions they see when they touch hands of both turning, even if planted by Snoke, was a great dynamic.

Yes, exactly. Also, in some classic emotionally abusive behavior, he's trying to isolate her so that she feels he's the only one she can turn to.

Going to be interesting to see what happens between them in the next one for sure.

There's also definitely going to be a serious power struggle between Kylo and Hux in the next film. Kylo completely blew it on Crait and Hux is not going to let the rest of the First Order forget that.

It bums me out that Phasma ended up being a wasted character. The Leia becoming Space Mary Poppins was just...weird. I feel like they had a great opportunity to have her death be in that scene, but I understand why they wanted to keep her through the entire film (Poe never gets shot with a blaster set to stun, and we don't get the amazing Luke/Leia reunion, nor the final scene with her and Rey talking about the future). I would have been ok with Finn dying, as dark as that would have been. He finally stopped running. I'm honestly glad romance isn't really a huge focus of this trilogy, but I also really like Rose, and she's a welcome addition.

And seeing Force Ghost Yoda was everything. I cried. It felt like seeing an old friend.

Cons: why kill Snoke when we know nothing about him? The Casino scene felt like a prequel scene. ugh. Benicio Del Toro was a wasted subplot. Needed more Laura Dern, but her exit was flawless.

Questions that need answers: Luke said Kylo took several of the 12 that Luke was training, and killed the others. What happened to the ones he took as the Knights of Ren?

Overall though, I loved it. It resets everything for IX. I'd expect a huge time jump, honestly, with Leia dying in the opening crawl, and setting the stage that we're now something like 5 years into a huge war, with Rey having trained Jedi, and Kylo having training Sith.

I truly loved the Luke twist. I loved this movie, and a day removed from seeing it, I give it a solid 8.5/10. Not mind blowingly good, but still spectacular and made me cry several times. The John Williams score, Luke/Leia, Kylo/Rey everything, especially the lightsaber battle in the throne room, and the final 40 minutes were everything.

Again, IX is almost a clean slate. I'm excited, because we truly don't know what will happen to close it all out.

  20. I woulda cut the Casino scene and made Finn's/Rose's arc on a ship dealing with Phasma more. I felt it was really weird that a huge part of the movie was "leave where you are, go find someone, come back" ... all while two ships slowly move further apart. (If the First Order had just a couple medium range fighters, it woulda been over? Bad planning dudes.)

The next movie will definitely be Kylo’s downfall. He is too impulsive, too emotional to control a massive army like the First Order. He lost his parents, who loved him and only wanted him to come back, as well as Luke. He is alone, immature, and does not posses the smarts to be effective in taking over the galaxy. Hence why I feel it’ll be him making one last push to take over but ultimately failing.

  23. The final act was as good as a final act as we've had. I loved everything once they finally got to the salt planet.

    Random thoughts:

    - Poor Ackbar, he sees a death with only a mention.

    - The shield on the main ship seemed to be capable of handling a lot of blasts. After they found the ship/tracked through hyperspace, I was surprised how long all of that took. Felt like the First Order coulda killed them all faster if they were smarter. Why not fly in more ships?

One of the biggest complaints I see people making is that Disney is killing Star Wars and that they hated what was done with Luke. It's such a fascinating thing to see. The prequels left a bad taste in everyone's mouth and then TFA was so very familiar to the point that it felt like seeing an old friend. And people hated it for not taking risks and being too safe (which I 100% understand). And then along comes TLJ and people are saying it killed what SW was for them. Like, how do you please everyone? lol

I don't think there was much else to do with Luke. He went to Ach-To (sp?) to die and that's what happened.

  25. The Luke limbo move with the light saber was an amazing shot. Loved seeing his control of the force and how he could keep himself up and move. SOOOOOOOOOOO much better than how they used the force in fights in the prequel.
