Defending mediocrity is always fun, I guess.

No one is ever allowed to enjoy something on the internet, ever. Everyone must be equally miserable.

No is allowed to be critical about something that is popular on the internet. We all have to just smile and be happy it even exists.

I mean, being critical is fine, but we've done this dance how many times now since this movie came out? I think we all know where we stand at this point. And it's one thing to be critical of a movie and another to be critical of the people who like it. And this conversation is starting to dovetail into the latter.

I wrote like 10 different responses to this. I’ll just say Spider-Man deserves far better than the mediocrity of Watts. Every Spider-Man fan should want better.

I just want a good live action MCU Spider-Man movie that doesn’t rely on Stark, Stark tech, or nostalgia for past Spider-Man films.

tony is dead, Peter lost access to his tech, and it would be highly unlikely for them to bring back any of the nostalgia characters in the next one. And hey, with Watts doing fantastic four maybe we will actually get a great director.

I wouldn't be mad at a Russo Brothers Spidey film. I liked what they did with him in Civil War. But I'm also cool with Marvel going with someone totally new to the MCU

I have no idea who I’d want to see direct the next trilogy, but I think it’s safe to say Marvel/Sony will want to differentiate the next trilogy tone wise from the Homecoming trilogy.

I dunno. When it comes to the Spider-Man IP being mined for movies that I enjoy, all my hope is in Spider-Verse and Venom.

(Also tentatively Kraven, but it’s too early to say. Genuinely more intrigued by that than I am by most of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. That and Madame Web being fun would make me so happy.)

The real most exciting Spidey thing is Zeb Wells making the Amazing Spider-Man comics the most interesting they’ve been since… I don’t even know? John Romita Jr returning to pencil it with Scott Hanna inks is so awesome.

It used to be enough for some directors to deliver a fun movie lol. Like not every director is going to be Spielberg or Scorsese. Most of the MCU directors are styleless journeymen but I’m not going to an MCU movie for the height of filmmaking. When a Gunn or a Coogler or a Waititi gets involved, that’s another story of course.

Of course calling Watts the GOAT is absurd, but he still made three fun movies.

Far From Home is the opposite of fun. Not gonna take this any further than that.

A lot of the humor in FFH is a miss (Flash, Ned/Betty, Happy/May, etc.), but it doesn't take away from it being a fun movie.

I don't watch FFH to laugh, I watch it to see Spider-Man and Mysterio.

Cutting out the scene where Peter strips in front of that shield agent and then accidentally calls in a drone on that kid, it was a fun enough movie. Still the worst live action Spider-Man movie, though

To be fair, the mysterio sequence where Peter thinks he’s with Fury is solid. The rest is kind of a slog.

The only part of the movie that actually made me chuckle is the “now that’s some bullshit” line from Fury/Talos after Mysterio describes the attack in London.

I've watched this 4 times already and you can bet your ass that I'm going to a 5th time just to see it in 4K

Hmm I was going to buy the movie from Google like usual, but now I'm curious what kind of bonus content is in Amazon Prime's "Bonus X-Ray Edition" digital copy

I’ll wait to buy the Blu-ray on Black Friday where it will inevitably be on sale. Watching the last third of the movie will be fun, the first two thirds are whatever. The Daredevil scene is already online, that was a fun scene.
