spider-verse isn’t simply the best animated film of 2018. it’s one of the best of that year period, as well as one of the standouts in CBMs and american animation

I was going by the award it won at the Academy, but, yeah, I’d put it up there with some Pixar

If I were Sony and Disney and I cared about the fans I would totally have one of the universes be the Spectacular Spider-Man universe. Not to take anything away from Miles, but if he's going to be dimension-hopping, this is such a golden opportunity. You've got two parts to work with, make it happen.

This movie (thankfully) has nothing to do with Disney.

    No, Spectacular Spider-Man does.

EDIT: To be more specific, pretty certain if Sony ever did want to do anything with Spectacular Spider-Man they'd have to work out some kind of arrangement with Disney and Marvel to do it. I could be wrong, but I feel confident Disney would have to be involved to some degree.

Ok, but Spider-Verse doesn't, and it was a massive critical and fan success as a purely Sony venture. If you're right about Spectacular Spider-Man, then why the heck would Sony make any decision that'd let Disney's grubby fingers into another one of their Marvel films, when that one doesn't need it? :puke:

Also, I don't think you're right about Spectacular. From what I recall, the reason that show was canceled to begin with was because Sony surrendered the television rights needed for making that show while retaining the rights to what had already been made for it. So, depending on the specifics, maybe those designs, etc., are actually freely available to Sony for this Lord & Miller film series?

I'm mostly not being serious about this because I'm sure it would never happen for one thing, but also because it probably wouldn't offer anything beyond an extraneous cameo.

That being said, if it did happen, it would be cool, fun, nice, and any number of other adjectives that don't have to involve a chronic allergy to anything Disney does. It's not like they'd be involved beyond just allowing the usage.

But you are right in that I could be wrong and Sony could be able to freely use the designs without needing approval. I'm not well versed in how that works. I see they do own the designs and they have the film rights, which is now making me wonder why they never made a Spectacular Spider-Man film...

Kidding, I know why. It's cause God hates us.

Glad to see they’ve aged up Miles and Gwen and that 2099 seems to have a big role

Oscar Isaac having a big role would be extremely great obviously

What I want most from this is them just really pushing what they can get away with visually.

The first one developed such a compelling aesthetic that I'd be happy to chill in for a couple more films (and however many more they can get away with after that). But, if this is a multiversal roadtrip of sorts where they occasionally bounce through some worlds for a few seconds, take some big swings with 'em! This includes familiar worlds, of course; how fun would it be to just fly through the Playstation game, or Spectacular, or a live action movie, and keep each one's genuine aesthetic? But, if we're only talking "remember this!?" nonsense, that's boring. Play around with the medium for both cool moments and funny gags. Like, what if they become storyboards at some point?

Oh, nice! I never got around to reading Bitter Root, but Sanford Greene is a really cool artist. Remember him drawing a multiversal Runaways miniseries (during Secret Wars) that Noelle Stevenson of She-Ra wrote, which was underrated and super fun.

I feel like we're gonna see Miles drop into the MCU in this one.

    From Entertainment Weekly's tweets...

So maybe a quick LEGO Movie-esq dip into live action?
