I might make myself look really dumb but are those mountain tops in the bottom right hand corner? I have heard you can see the Great Wall but I don't know about mountains tho?

 

Looks like snow covered mountains. I think the Great Wall thing is a myth because most roads are wider and you can't see them, assuming they mean you can see it with the naked eye, not with technology.

Gonna go outside and see what Saturn looks like right now. I need to buy a telescope. Seems like a purchase that would come in handy in times like these.

edit: underwhelming without a telescope... or glasses haha. Jupiter is bright as all get out, though.

 

I'll be honest I wasn't sure 100% what I was looking at but I think it was Saturn bc the rings were faint but you could see them. My friend says I do that thing where you make excuses for what I'm seeing which I totally do but either way, we saw some good stuff.

 

So cool that you could make out the rings! It's pretty bright where I live so that didn't help. The app on my phone insisted I was looking at it, though.

 

That's the best thing about here. There's only one streetlight and it's pitch black!

Perseids peaks late tonight before dawn. I'm heading out around 8pm since the moon rises at 9:30pm. Should have a solid hour and a half as long as the insects aren't out in full force like last year.

That seems to be the deal breaker most years. We have thunderheads all around us but it's pretty clear over the valley/lower elevations. The good news is there's always next year.
