Okay so this album is perfect for sunny days and driving with the windows down and blasting at max volume

    Absolutely

It's weird though how "Last Looks" is probably Silverstein'a heaviest song ever and so out of character with the rest of the album which is a fairly strong summertime post-hardcore album, with little sprinkles of metalcore and dare I say, pop-punk

Yup! I almost get some yellowcard vibes from some of the parts on the album

This is easily my most anticipated for the rest of the year and the positive vibes here are making it really hard to hold out.

Been listening to this album most of the day. It is so good. I don't ever listen to this type of music anymore so I'm glad I gave this a chance.

  6. it saddens me to say that but i'm not feeling it at all. it falls off hard after the first three songs. Shane does an impressive job as usual whereas the rest of the band seems to be on autopilot mode, something I feel on every other release by them anyway (Arrivals & Departures, Rescue, I Am Alive in some parts). so with that pattern, i'll probably like their next release more.

  7. i think their mix of lite post hardcore and pop punk is stale at this point. i know it's their trademark sound but they don't seem to be able to make it interesting anymore. these songs all are interchangeable and even sound dated. i get way more excited when they're out of their comfort zone which for Silverstein often means exploring their heavier side. however they rarely fully commit to it and instead overcompensate with a sugary banal chorus that kills the momentum. i wish Short Songs wasn't a one off thing because they avoided these flaws and the songwriting was way less predictable.

I kind of disagree, Silverstein aren't pop-punk and never will be. They're straight up post-hardcore, and they're one of few bands that can echo such sincerity in their music. The heavy songs have so much energy and emotion, and the clean parts feel real and strong and I feel they're going super hard as of late.

I will add that the album art is sweet too. I really like it.

They quite obviously have some straight up pop punk songs

I definitely get an alternative rock vibe from certain songs on this, which is a first for the band and I appreciate them branching out a little bit as a long time fan. This album reminds me a lot of Rescue. It's not as good as DTW, ASITS, or TIHTWS, but it's a solid album. Definitely dig it more than the last album, which is probably my least favorite Silverstein album.

I was thinking about this the other day. Aside from I Am Alive, which is hideous, all their artwork has been great and I realized I missed the painting style, but this art is great too. Love the colors.

  17. When Broken has to be last for me if only for how horrible Shane's screaming is

My favorites are Shipwreck and Wind Shifts but the new album is def in the upper half - one of their most aggressive records

What don't people like about I Am Alive? IMO, it's got some of the best songs in the typical Silverstein sound, it branches out a bit into some solid poppier tracks, and Late on 6th and Toronto (unabridged) have really powerful slow builds. It's the best mix of everything they can do.

  19. I agree - it's probably fifth on my list

For the record there isn't a Silverstein album I don't enjoy

My list would probably go like this:
    1. This is how the wind shifts
    2. A shipwreck in the sand
    3. Discovering the waterfront
    4. Dead reflection
    5. I am alive in everything I touch
    6. Rescue
    7. Short songs
    8. Arrival and departures
    9. When broken is easily fixed

I've always liked Shipwreck fine but I need to check it out again since that seems to be a fairly overwhelming favorite

  21. It has a really good concept

I don't like Shipwreck at all, haha.

    1. Discovering the Waterfront
    2. This is How the Wind Shifts
    3. Short Songs
    4. I am Alive in Everything I Touch
    5. Rescue
    6. Shipwreck
    7. Arrivals and Departures
    8. When Broken

I don't really enjoy the last three at all. This album has my least favourite artwork though, it's bland compared to the rest.

Holding out for Friday as well but here's this

    1)Discovering The Waterfront
2)This Is How The Wind Shifts
    3)A Shipwreck In The Sand
    4)Short Songs
    5)Rescue
    6)When Broken Is Easily Fixed
7)I Am Alive In Everything I Touch
    8)Arrivals and Departure

It's interesting that I Am Alive fell so low on my list. I think there's some great songs on there, but it just didn't grab me in the way Wind Shifts did.

I can't really get my head around Rescue and When Broken not being the lowest two on any list
