"We didn't record an EP, we recorded two!"

Song is okay. I just don't understand why they, like every modern metalcore band, have ditched the lead guitar for programmed electronics. When they were more punk/melodic hardcore leaning, they were one of my absolute favorite bands.

 

I like this song a lot. The more refined version of Silverstein we've gotten over the last few records really scratches an itch for me. Can't wait to hear the rest of this!

 

Also, the cover is sick

 

I really like the two songs we have so far so I'm excited for this.

 

Not enjoying either singles released. Gonna assume this won’t be for me since that’s 1/4 of this record already lol

 

Very lukewarm on the singles

 

I know it’s wishful thinking but I hope we only get like 1 more song before this releases

 

They’ve never been the most original band but this single sounds like your run of the mill poppy post hardcore band. Eh

 

Is evanescence back?

 

I miss when this band was hardcore and ripped. This poppy singy stuff is so boring and generic.

 

I misread this as Silent Planet's follow-up to SUPERBLOOM at first and got way more excited for whatever that would be.

 

Everything from this band since Dead Reflection has just sounded so safe and overly produced. Bums me out.

 

Yup. Good for them if it’s drawing a new crowd but this definitely isn’t for me. It just sounds like what every other generic metalcore band is doing. I’m all for a departure in sound and trying new things, but this direction has been a bore.

 

Agreed, and I say this as someone who Silverstein was a very formative band for. Broken-Wind Shifts is an all time run and the band still rips live. Just can't get into the new stuff.

 

Man.... Misery Made Me is probably my favorite album from them. If its anything like that... I would be totally down

 

things i learned from the live stream today

they recorded the album/s at joshua tree, they had 25 fully realized demos so they said once both albums are out, they may think about revising some of the songs that didn't make the cut and issuing them on a deluxe edition, paul marc commented that they could have done a triple album and it wouldn't suffer in quality at all.

the upcoming 25 years of noise tour will include a few new songs but mostly old songs, and there will be at least one song played from every album they have put out. shane was like if you hate the new stuff come out, if you like the new stuff come out and enjoy the old stuff too lol

paul marc's first official show with the band was at smalls in Pittsburgh on the short songs tour and he had to play over 30 songs his first set with the band LOL (the band was asked if they remembered their first show, they only played the 5 songs they had at the time and played in a basement of some church in canada) he also filled in for Billy on bass for 4 shows prior and filled in for Josh for a whole tour when he injured his back, in hindsight that's funny that he filled in for two members he didn't actually end up replacing.

it was nice to see them stoked on silverstein and they said 2025 is gonna be they're year!

 

I liked this one more than I expected based on the comments, Shane really is such a gifted hook writer. But I agree with the general sentiment that it’s getting harder to get excited about pop rock songs from them. They handled the transition so masterfully on dead reflection but it’s been so long since I’ve come away from a heavy band’s new album and thought “wow that sounds so fresh and new.” That said, I’m sure I’ll like the album just like every other.

also I don’t think I like the cover much but I appreciate that it’s more interesting than either of the last 2.

Artwork rules.

I am a late comer to the band, and (hand up) I appreciate a poppier metalcore experience. They do that REALLY well. The choruses on Misery Made Me and ABPTD absolutely rip, and the two singles are the same.

At the same time, I feel sympathetic to the fans who would want them to not even “go back to how you used to play” but just *evolve* that sound. Dead Reflection does it well, but a person singing along to “Infinite” is not always the same person who wants to scream along to “Smile In Your Sleep.” And that sucks, because bands gotta sell tickets. Of the singles, “Skin and Bones” walks the line better than “Confession,” but the hook in the latter is pretty outstanding to the point that a child could sing it. That’s airplay and eyeballs and crossover potential.

In conclusion, Silverstein is a land of contrasts.

 

At the Vegas show the other day Shane said "we don't know when 'Pink Moon' will come out yet. Well we do, but we can't tell you... maybe September though."

 

For those who subscribe to the “every other album” Silverstein trend/theory, we’re due for a worse album, but maybe this will buck the trend.
