i think the key is that when we're talking about "science" in this case, these people don't actually mean science, because the scientific method has plenty to say in social and genetic studies. the scientific method isn't flawed (whether or not it rules all - well, I don't like that wording, haha) - the people who are applying it are being selective butts.

all of the comments on this issue that are like "oh if you'd been around back in the days when punk was starting, you wouldn't have survived a day" or whatever make me laugh, because I've met plenty of self-identified punk dudes in their 50s who "were there" and still manage to understand how misogyny works and also treat women like people... like please stop using your age as a shield to act like an asshole, you're still wrong

 

I don't think anything in that article is necessarily wrong, but it seems.... incomplete, I guess, to discuss women having "pretty privilege" without also discussing the pressure women are under to appear attractive in the first place? Idk. Feels like a no-win situation to me lol.

 

This is something that's very frustrating to me and part of the reason I've been single for a while. I love my brother in law but sometimes I get so frustrated watching how he expects my sister to do everything. She forgot to pack my nephew's sippy cup and he gave her a sarcastic thumbs up and said "good job" and I laid into him lol, like it's not also his job to remember and help. But I swear men have convinced themselves that they can be divorced from any expectations or responsibilities. It's ridic. And I def see women coddling men and infantalizing them, treating them like they can barely function on their own because that's how they've been socialized to treat them. It's put me off so many relationships cause they never actually seem equal

Ugh yes i have to hear that all the time. It's funny cause when I call men out on it they usually seem kind of embarrassed and try to backtrack instead of doubling down which is what I'd expect. Maybe cause they are embarrassed that they behave like they're 12 idk. It's like they need to be reminded they can also do things. But I'm not here for that nagging life so I have a hard time with relationships. Last guy who flirted with me said i was argumentative because I called him entitled and I was like lol ok

 

Agreed. I will however let men pick up and put shit away if they offer which is a lot like at work and stuff. I big time don't bend to gender roles or act "like a girl" and most of the staff that I majorly work with knows that. There's no like well you should clean this shit up, or wipe this station down bc you're a woman and they clean and that bullshit (which a couple bros did a lot). It took me a super long time to get here. I'm way older than most of you so it will come if it already hasn't. I dunno if it's living in the south but this shit should be over and we shouldn't even have to complain about it anymore, it should just be known.

This may not even go with what y'all are saying. I have been with 3 kids by myself all day and my brain is on The Wiggles and shit.
