  6. I'm no more interested in listening to people who believe all criticism of Clinton is invalid because she's a woman than I am in listening to people who believe her being a woman has nothing to do with the standard she's held to as opposed to her male counterparts in politics.

Which, from what I can tell, are the two points expressed in those articles. We can do better.

  8. I respect their decisions but I'm not in that camp. I voted early for Clinton and I'm completely at peace with that fact.

I just disagree with the two hard-set mindsets that seem to dominate discussions about her - either she's the root of all evil (*despite* gender) or she's above reproach (*because of* gender). Neither are accurate, and both contribute to a possible Trump presidency.

I hear yah. How do you feel about the rhetoric, that I've found equally as dominant to the two you've mentioned, that any at all criticism of Clinton contributes to a Trump Presidency?

Also... tell the little Meerkat I said hello and miss her.

It's always hard for me to bite my tongue when I hear people drop words like whore and slut like it's nothing. it happens a lot in my line of work and I don't say anything but it's like an internal flinch. it's always from women about women and they're constantly babying men and erasing their accountability. I don't call out their word usage but I try to put it back on the man so they see his part in it too and that he wasn't just swindled by those conniving manipulative women. but it's always like protect the men at all costs from any criticism and blame the women always. I think it's a defense mechanism too because instead of thinking their partner is unloyal or their relationship wasn't working, or maybe to deflect from their own perceived shortcomings, they can put all the blame onto a third party, but it's frustrating. men stay being coddled.

  20. I was traveling this weekend, thus my lack of response.

I don't agree with it, with one caveat - often times, largely due to Clinton's existence as a woman and the resulting nature of the way she is critiqued, criticism of her is levied as evidence that she is merely the lesser of two evils, IF that. With that framing and in that context, I would agree that any criticism of her contributes to a Trump presidency because the inevitable conclusion is that she's barely better than him - and at least on par.

That isn't so suggest that the intent is necessarily always there, but... in today's political climate, and misogyny (internalized or otherwise) that's where we're at. As a Clinton supporter who by no means agrees with her on every issue, it's very frustrating because I'm in a place where it feels as if I can't be transparent about my issues with her the way I have been with other candidates because so many will misconstrue my intent in doing so. And so the discussion is silenced because I can't say "she's imperfect" without someone gleefully yelling "she's evil, vote Stein/Johnson/Trump/etc". All of which contributes to a Trump presidency, prevents true accountability and helps exactly nobody.

To tack on to Anna's post, I also feel like Hillary's flaws are blown out of proportion in comparison to other politicians. One of the most common criticisms I've seen on Chorus specifically and by liberals/leftists is her take on foreign policy, her support of the Iraq war, air strikes, no fly zone and general hawkishness etc. I agree these are valid criticisms but the harshness with which those criticisms have been leveled are wholly disproportionate in comparison to male politicians with similar views like, you know, Obama.

Leftists on chorus/ap have been extremely critical of obamas foreign policy for years and years. The reason it hasn't come up lately is because Obama isn't running for president. Plus, HRC is further right than Obama on foreign policy from what I can tell.

I never visited the politics forum on AP so I can't speak to that, hence not mentioning it. The presidential campaign has gone on the whole time Chorus has been up so I could definitely be misreading the way people criticize Obama vs Clinton. That said, the liberals in my life (and there are a lot, I'm from MA) are definitely harsher on Clinton than Obama, so I stand by my point.

You called out chorus specifically so I had to say something since I've been engaged in the politics forum for a few years and know the leftists aren't all that cozy to Obama. Definitely can see it being the case in real life as I see it as well
