    Goddamn, man child Prestigious

There was an awful tragedy here by some scorned entitled man. He was dating this woman but they broke up. He found out she started dating his childhood bff so he lured her son (who saw him as a father figure) by telling him they were gonna hang out and play sports and he shot and killed the poor kid and dumped the body. He was 14. Then he went and shot the woman and his bff and then himself. The woman lived but now her bf and son are dead. The whole community is devastated. There have been so many crimes here this year by entitled men mad that their gfs have moved on

Went to school with a girl whose ex BF shot her while she was in a parade bc she moved on and then killed himself. She lived but she's paralyzed from the neck down.

i may get better but we won't ever get well Prestigious

i don't think it's even a very useful question. sexism towards Clinton and female politicians on both sides of the aisle has been here for years, and it's been fairly public for years. while Trump exacerbated and mass televised it, I'm not even sure how much of it wasn't already at that point (see the John McCain supporter, "how do we stop the bitch.") it's good to be aware that this will see an uptick, but how many women weren't expecting it?

  6. Exactly. Like, Obama being president didn't cause more racism or antiblackness even though folks used that as an argument for why he shouldn't be elected. It just angered people so that they were more upfront about their racism - the only real difference when stuff like this happens is that people who don't normally have to see it, start to see it. If you have the luxury of being surprised, that's privilege. Those of us who live with this reality every single day aren't gonna be surprised to see what we already knew.

"It’s true that all women, regardless of their national origin, become subject to the media’s relentless sexism. But the sexualization of Eastern European women goes further, rooted in both historical conditions and cultural misconceptions.

Because they came from underprivileged areas, many women migrants from Eastern Europe — some of them refugees — worked in the domestic service and sex industries. Many, even in liberal and left circles, still perceive Eastern European women through this lens.....

Melania Trump should certainly be criticized for her politics. But the giddy attacks on Trump have demonstrated that disdain for Eastern Europe still holds currency in mainstream American discourse — and far too often, Eastern European women become the immediate targets."

  12. "The fact that Estes leaned closer to Rooke's suggested verdict of continued without a finding and one year probation ensures that a promising life will not be thrown away due to "one mistake at one moment on one night which was clouded with alcohol" as an adolescent, Rooke said."

The journalist completely buys into this drivel. Not all of that is a quote. I just... ugh.

Giving up alcohol opened my eyes to the infuriating truth about why women drink

I've read this article three times now and I can't decide how I feel about it. There are certain parts that hit home and make such good points (the "only woman on the panel" bit is so sadly accurate, and the commentary on alcohol being unnecessarily ubiquitous in adult/professional life is a sentiment I share very strongly), but for some reason the end seems a little... off, to me. It's a good read either way, though.

Of course he's from East Longmeadow. Privileged twat. I spent my teen years in neighboring Springfield. Really disgusting that the DA recommended jail time and somehow this kid gets off without even a criminal record to show what a massive piece of shit he is. Part of me is disappointed this happened in my old hometown, but the other part is certain that this sort of backwards behavior from the community (like that quote highlighting his athleticism as an excuse for why he shouldn't be punished) is why the rest of Massachusetts has progressed and left Western Mass to fend/rot for itself. Part of why I moved away. Now I kind of hope it does rot...except for those poor girls.
