Its been like a month if that. Early February I think

 

This is kind of random but does anyone remember this? I've never really understood what he meant by slamming BLG for using co-writers. Don't the majority of bands in this scene use co-writes to some extent? He basically slams every band that uses co-writers and says they don't have a passion for music, which I don't think is true.

 

I see it both ways from a couple different perspectives. I can see how if you poured your heart and soul into writing a song or album, it being kind of a slap in the face seeing someone else just hire people to do it for them. On the flip side, I get it from a business perspective that the label would want the band to release the most marketable and/or best song so they use their resources to make that happen.

 

for me it sometimes kinda of depends on how many outside co-writers. Sometimes I feel too many cooks spoils the broth. But there are occasionally exceptions that I don't really know how to explain.

 

BLG sucked ass. I know the singer has been a part of a lot of music I’ve liked since then, but I never understood the love for BLG, just so dull, and the epitome of generic scene music

Totally. Everything from their aesthetics, to their production choices, etc. it was just so Disingenuous fake/fabricated at the time imo. And their albums don’t hold up.. at all.

 

Lol Buddy was a dick for awhile. Went at some people that def deserved it, but glad he's chilled out mostly since then

Greatest argument for needing co-writers? Bryan Stars. His songs are still the worst things I've ever heard haha. I'd rather never be reminded this guy exists lol

 

Complaining about co-writing is lame af and it's no surprise the scene and its surrounding genres are too often stuck in the past.

 

Well that video is ten years old, Buddy is a completely different person now. Not that it matters, but still.

 

Yeah thankfully. I do know a good portion of their fanbase still feels the same way. My eyes burn everytime I step into a Blink thread when co-writers are mentioned.

 

I don't have an issue with co-writers at all, I just don't like how it turned out for Blink.

 

Unfortunately, most bands have co-writers and I have overall mixed feelings on it personally, but it’s not a big deal.

Either way both Bryan Stars and BLG hardcore suck lol

 

Except their production choices were actually way, way, way ahead of their time and those that worked on the second album are now some of the most sought after producers and songwriters in the entire world, and their albums hold up so well huge bands to this day are going back and cribbing from them. So, basically none of this is true.

 

I love how you always seem so convinced that your opinions are solid facts. It’s truly impressive. I don’t think those albums hold up well or that their production choices were “way way ahead of their time”, and I can’t recall the last time that I’ve heard of any bands/artists I listen to say they were listening to BLG albums for inspiration in 2020.

 

What I said was factual. What they did on that album, from a production and songwriting standpoint, was ahead of its time and that's borne out because a lot of what they were doing then is now being used by Blink-182, The Maine, Goldfinger, Panic! at the Disco, and All Time Low (before even getting into the entire 70's stadium rock and 80's synth revival of the past few years) ... all bands you listen to based on your posting history (and I can pull even more from what's actually in the mainstream right now that you don't). Sam Hollander is one of the most sought after producers/songwriters in the world.

You can not like it, I don't care, but that's not the same thing.

 

It's obviously an opinion, but I think the first couple BLG albums have held up better than a lot of other albums that came out during that time frame.

 

I always thought BLG had a bunch of guilty pleasure bangers.

 

I don’t wanna say the records don’t hold up for me bc i really loved some of those songs but I never saw them as more than just another pop punk band that got big and died out. I’ll have to revisit.

 

I never cared much at all for BLG in the first place, but that's just me.

 

Lol yeah I’m intrigued to give them a discography run later tonight. Gonna grab a bottle of wine,L and take half a focalin. Haven’t actually listened to them In yearssss

 

Brian Howes and Matt Squire are far from revolutionary producers, but that’s just me.
