Thorns is nowhere near as strong as Renacer or Fire but do I prefer it over Light? Absolutely and I’m sure I’ll prefer it over this new record too.

The Courage of an Open Heart alone beats out anything off the last record or these singles.

 

I loved the last album and was stoked for new music, but the new songs are just there for me especially Death By Water. It’s a really weak lead single. Regardless of any opinions on the music, this rollout is wack. Delay releasing music instead of releasing a few singles for an album that’s 6-8 months away.

 

Man, I wish they were still making music in the vein of Renacer and Thorns. That style from these guys was heavily my shit.

 

I agree in Death By Water being a weak lead single. It’s kind of a bummer because they had Spencer from Ice Nine Kills with what could have been a really great feature, and they had a really sick riff that they teased prior to the release… like the song sounded LOUD, and kinda heavy, but then it just falls apart once they get into the verses… and the feature didn’t even really turn out that great either. Idk, felt like a squandered opportunity for a cool octane style single.

That riff is still great, but it disappears after the first like 5 seconds and only reappears at the very end.

Lush Rimbaugh was sick though. The other single, idr the name, also did absolutely nothing for me.

 

To say I agree would be a massive understatement. I love that era of Senses Fail and would gladly pay stupid money for another record in that vein. If not - I will gladly take another Bayonet EP that Buddy said was in the works like 3 years ago lol

 

i way prefer light to thorns which is presently my least fav sf, but i only liked one single off this so i am not terribly excited

need the fire remaster to finally drop tho pls buddy

 

Definitely impatiently waiting for the Fire remaster/repress :(

 

I wasn’t a huge fan of the last record, but it grew on me. Especially the title track. But these new songs have some of Buddy’s worst lyrics and his voice sounds awful.

Around the follow your bliss ep, renacer, and PTTFYH era, Buddy was making huge strides vocally and he sounded really good live. Idk what happened, but his vocals are pretty horrendous on these new songs

 

Idk what happened either. I think Buddy sounded great on Renacer, but his screams on Thorns and the last album did not have the same punch and bite to them as they did on Renacer. I wonder if he blew his voice out a bit doing different screaming techniques during the Renacer era

Nah Renacer and Thorns are two of their best albums. Fight me.

 

Thorns was massively disappointing for me (upon first listen) after Renacer but I’ve grown to love it over time.

However, Renacer and Fire are much better records IMO

Renacer > Fire > LIEY > Thorns > LINAWR > SS > FTDOD >>> Light > IYA

Ahh I never considered those albums “hardcore”. I can see why some would say that though.

 

I mean it isn’t straight up hardcore.. but it’s pretty much hardcore for this band.

 

I’ve watched this audiotree session at least 20 times over the years. So good.

 

Same here bud! They sound amazing here, especially Buddy.

 

Whenever that vinyl boxset drops, I'm buying immediately

 

i’ve listened to this twice now and i don’t really know how i feel about it. i think the first half is okay. but so far everything after “What The Thunder Said” doesn’t thrill me.

also the features are wildly underutilized. can barely even tell that they’re there. given the insanely long rollout for this i see it landing with a thud at best.
