If we're talking about underrated SA songs, I'm going to put a vote in for "I Will Never Write and Obligatory Song About Being On the Road and Missing Someone".

Most underrated has to be "We Killed It" for me. And "Overbiter." And I'm sure there's more.

God, this thread made me throw them on shuffle while I was showering and I still love this band so much. So many memories attached to these songs. I remember thinking I'd never heard anything like it the first time I heard In Defense Of The Genre, and then ...Is a Real Boy. I was like 14. And these songs still mean so much to me today. They still shape my tastes almost a decade later. There's something special about that..

Sorry for the sappy tangent. I think today at work I'll do a full run-through of their discography, starting with Baseball. Might invade this thread with some random thoughts/observations if y'all don't mind. It's been a while since I've sat down and listened to the full albums.

One of my favorite things about Say Anything (and what I think is lacking in many other bands) is attitude. I am struggling to articulate exactly what I mean, so I'll just go for an approximation. A song like Admit It or Give A Damn or Hate Everyone requires a lot of attitude (maybe I mean style, or confidence) to even write, let alone pull off. I find whatever that quality I'm trying to articulate so satisfying to hear.

I think that may be the reason I can jam IDTII so hard, and I can't really jam A,MD at all. For all its annoying qualities, IDTII it has so much attitude, whereas A,MD, in my opinion, has very little. Maybe that makes sense.

It was me. It used to be my least favorite on the album for a long time and then after a few years of not really listening to it I came back and it suddenly clicked and was p much instantly my favorite from that point on.
This too yeah, adore this one.

  9. Hah, almost the exact same thing happened to me. Seeing it performed live made it finally click.

Also gonna say "Chia-Like, I Shall Grow" is super underrated and might actually by my favorite ...Is a Real Boy song

That one was actually my favorite until Slowly took over, I think.

Yea that's easily one of my favorite IARB songs. I have a very emotional connection to that song, for no reason that is really obvious to me, but when it comes on it just hits me every time. A true top 10 SA song for me (but like this one would actually really make it if I made a top 10 list).

Yellow cat/red cat is my favorite Say Anything song and it's not even close but the closest to it might indeed be Chia-like

  15. Same. The "I discard all my feelings/As the stars still scar my ceiling" line punches me in the gut every time

Currently listening to Junior Varsity, haha. This band was a straight-up Blink-182 style pop-punk band before Baseball.

  17. Probably still my favorite SA song in the end

  18. Max references turning 16 on "High School Law," haha, I forgot how young he was. Must have been 15 when this EP was recorded.

  19. I can't believe Baseball is an hour and 14 minutes long.

I was obsessed with this song in high school.'

edit: I was also obsessed with "By Tonight" and "I Am a Transylvanian." I remember listening to Menorah/Majora for at least a summer straight.

That ep is probably the most consistent SA release, and Max sounds so good on it.
