I'm ashamed to say I actually kinda dig what he's going for musically with the piano and Sherri vocals, but I have no interest in ever hearing this again because the lyrics are so dogshit and I feel gross listening to anything new from Max

 

I wanna be clear: the problem with Say Anything has almost never been the music. It's Max being a disgusting, unstable man child who scams his audience and doesn't take care of himself and leans into this shit.

 

This is actually a good current summary of his issues. I take issue when people bring up he’s potentially a bad father and struggles with mental health. Those issues aren’t necessarily our business or his control(the mental health aspect). So I agree with this criticism.

 

Like, if Max suddenly got the help he truly needs, reflected, apologized to his fans he scammed and made good on his actions, I'd be all for him releasing new stuff. But this isn't good music because it's tainted with his toxic personality and it's clearly not just a bit.

As someone who has severe mental health issues and has fucked up a lot, I understand how hard it can be, but this just is really upsetting. Him falling back into this kind of mindset and not evolving his lyrics and personality.

Max and Sherri are in the Dallas Observer this week talking about the joys of unschooling. Incredibly uncomfortable.

What the flying fuck is “unschooling”?

 

I can't think of anything I want to hear less than Max Bemis saying the word "cum"

The big caveat about unschooling, it seems, is that there still needs to be some sort of guidance, discipline, and structure. I am very skeptical Max and Sherri are good at providing that.

Sadly as much as I don’t really want a Say Anything tattoo, it was one the last tattoos my artist of 5 years did before passing so I don’t think I could bring myself to cover it up. Maybe I’ll post it for the potential memes though.

I would say "On Cum" is a pretty good litmus test for how you'll feel about the record. The lyrics, music, and production are pretty on par with what you can expect from the record.
