I can definitely hear Chris's voice over that.

Very interesting... I'm excited. I personally hated their S/T and thought it was so... weak/half baked/generic. Glad they're experimenting to do something new.

I'd say even if s/t wasn't for you, I wouldn't call it half baked. I think it's super cohesive without running together and personally that seems like something one works on pretty hard

I love the S/T. One of my favorite releases from this band

Yeah.. the S/T is definitely just a good power-pop album. If you don't like the genre then that's fair, but wouldn't call it half-baked.

I think it lacks in the creative department compared to pretty much every record of theirs. Even their very standard pop songs off other records fare better than any songs off their S/T aside from "In the in between". That's just my opinion and why I view it as half baked.

I respect that, and there's no doubt that there are some duds such as Beyond All Time, but I think Remember, Xenophobic Blind Left Hook, and Stand in the Stars have very creative parts and arrangements considering the genre. And Ring Pop fits in nicely with other StD pop-punk tunes such as Can't Stay the Same or Dying Day.

Memories are nice, but that's all they are. Prestigious

I don't see S/T as half baked or lacking creativity at all. There's a lot of really cool arrangements as well as very good guitar work.

I'm just going to put my foot down and say Saves the Day will always be my favorite band. I love all their albums, I always look forward to new releases, I hate people that only like Through Being Cool and Stay What You Are and dismiss their other work, I think Under the Boards is an underrated album and when you think about it it had many songs that could've been singles (get fucked up, can't stay the same, bye bye baby, radio, kaleidoscope, lonely nights).....but I have to say the self titled is my least favorite album by them, with the exception of Can't Slow Down but they were freakin kids and still Chris Conley managed to write good lyrics then. /rant

Under the Boards was actually my first introduction to the band. They were opening for Say Anything and Motion City Soundtrack, so I listened to that since it was their newest album, and I loved (and still love) the album, especially for the songs you mentioned).

I thought S/T was good at first, but it had almost 0 lasting power with me. I just haven't really revisited it since it came out except for a couple times.

I mean, in terms of their best pop moments you can't beat In Reverie imo but s/t is clearly a fun album that happens to be made by people who are really great at their instruments, even if they're not getting super crazy with it all. Anywaaaays I love it and I've fallen for this band hard in the last two years in a way I wouldn't have believed if you told that to the high school me who was only familiar with TBC

I think there are lots of curveballs on s/t. Like the guitar effect/syncopated whammy bar over the opening chord progression on the first song sounds so off kilter and not right but it's also super infectious. And Chris' vocal melodies are great, he shifts tempo super cleanly /deliberately. Idk the album is personally littered with those kind of moments

First off; YES. Under The Boards is my favorite and I been following the band since they first release TBC when I was in Middle School (fuck I'm old) but that album still gives me chills. I love it.

Back to my S/T bashing (jk... kind of): "Remember" and "Ring Pop" is fine but has no zero lasting power for me personally, I can't stand the chorus to "Xenophobic", and "Stand in the Stars" is fun but not a solid closer at all.

The production is great and Chris sounds great but it comes down to the musicial direction and lyrics that come off lacking in my opinion compared to the rest of their discography. The only song I love off that record is "Supernova".

I put most of their stuff back on my phone. Under The Boards and Sound The Alarm have been my go-tos.

I've noticed there videos I've seen of him doing that all feature swya and before songs a bit heavier than normal, and he used to do the same in that era, no?

One of my biggest regrets in life was not seeing them during the In Reverie era. Saw them on the Pop Disaster tour and thought they were such a great opener for Green Day and Blink. Man that was a long time ago. Good'ol days.
