'Raw', IIRC, was just plain filthy. But hilarious as a young child.

The opening track's title from his first comedy album

His SNL stuff still holds up today but yeah the opening minutes of Delirious are still real, real bad. But he has at least acknowledged how awful that material was and he seems like he isn't the kind of person who would make those kinds of statements anymore.

I’m not really familiar with his SNL work but I just hope he’s able to bring the energy he excels at in his movies. I know he isn’t 25 years old any more but I was hoping he’d have a return to form in the movie Tower Heist but that ended up as a dud.

If there is anyone who can ruin Eddie Murphy's return to Saturday Night Live, it's Saturday Night Live.

I hope this generation of writers doesn't try to write for his old characters, but rather integrate him into the current era of the show. I'd be surprised if we don't get an excellent Black Jeopardy sketch.

From Wiki, I do not remember this:

The Buckwheat character was retired in spectacular fashion—assassinated, on camera, in front of 30 Rockefeller Plaza—at Murphy's request, after he grew tired of constant demands from fans to "Do Buckwheat! Do Buckwheat!"[26][27] In Rolling Stone's February 2015 appraisal of all 141 SNL cast members to date, Murphy was ranked second (behind John Belushi). "It is customary (and accurate) to say that Eddie Murphy is the only reason SNL survived the five-year wilderness without Lorne Michaels," they noted.[28]

It’s truly wild to think there was a time when Lorne not being around was considered a bad thing

While streaming thru the history of the 90's, I came across this finale to season 19. This was after Carvey and Rock left.
