I was watching it in real time and it felt like a couple of commercial breaks were reallllly long, and WU felt super short too

The worst thing about the cameo approach to politicians is that a sketch like the debate sketch is interrupted like 9 times so the audience can applaud at every introduction. No chance for any momentum to build.

It’s one thing to use celeb cameos for also-ran candidates like Harris, Booker, and Klobuchar, but relying on non-cast members to play real contenders is not a good idea imo. Biden and Sanders are two of the top three candidates, polling-wise, and they should be prepared for what happens if one of them wins the primary (and the presidency for that matter). God forbid Joe Biden becomes president, is Woody going to stick around in NYC every time they need to do a Biden sketch? For four years? It’s just a total lack of foresight on Lorne’s part.

Soooo is Pete Davidson still a part of this cast?

I personally think something is going on with him, and they’re trying to hide it. Hence why he’s been in barley anything this season. Hate to speculate, but it’s just very odd he was so prominent last season

maybe it has something to do with the movie he's doing with judd apatow?

He filmed the Apatow movie over the summer, he missed the first two episodes this season because he was filming the Suicide Squad sequel and he was in Miami for a wedding apparently last night. I've never heard of any other cast member being allowed to just come and go like that before but maybe he has some kind of arrangement with Lorne

I'm pretty sure cast members get paid by episode so if they're not on set one week it's not like they get paid for being a no-show.

Tdlyon is right though, former cast members have missed opportunities and other engagements because of the show, so it is strange/Pete is very lucky to just get to come and go as he pleases

It really sucks when you see how the darlings of Lorne can get away with stuff like that, especially after reading some of the terrible stories of SNL cast members missing opportunities, etc. because of the show's schedule. Pete doesn't even really contribute that much to the show to justify him getting that much time off.

The fact that Pete can be gone so much and it not affect the show in the slightest is pretty much all you need to know about what he brings to the table. It really pisses me off that he gets to do whatever he wants and keep his spot in the main cast while other deserving comedians get turned down every year without getting the same opportunities he does.

The only thing I can think is Lorne wants to keep Pete on to help track his sobriety. I think he's way more sensitive to that after people like Chris Farley. But that shouldn't excuse him from not showing up and getting to do movie shoots on show weeks.
