The only song on the self-titled that I could argue hasn't aged very well is maybe You're Not Alone. Everything else has held up for me on recent listens.

which is fine bc that song's way overrated anyway. that and voices are just bland pop rock songs imo.
also, necessary shoutout to Sleepers for being a GOAT-tier scene song.

 

That whole album is great pop rock imo.

 

whyd he change his vocal melodies the way he did in Sleeper from the EP version. it was a mistake imo.

 

Not here for the self-titled album hate... it holds up well imo

The changes from The Grey EP to ISOSG were dumb as well.

 

Cove was working closely with Howard Benson on that album. I'm sure he probably had Cove change those melodies.

 

Also on the topic of what ISOSG could have been, this version of Changing was so much better than the album version.

And this b-side is better than like 75% of the album.

 

What’s the major difference?

it's mainly how it's mixed. The album version just doesn't sound as good or anthemic to me, and I was disappointed with it as a result.

 

you’re not alone is one of the better songs on the album, along with it’s far better to learn

 

This is why bands should never release a different version of a song early, your ear almost always wants to hear the version you have heard first.. I had this issue with settle the scar by the hotelier but now I like the goodness version more

 

Sleepers is still the song I return to most from S/T

 

Was this from The Grey ep they released? Yeah I completely agree I was disappointed hearing the album version.

 

No it was the radio mix that was released as a prerelease track. Just sounds way better than the album mix I think.

 

It was 'Keep Secrets' I was thinking of with the two version.

Worth a listen if you haven't heard it before 'Love Maker' is solid I think.

 

Self titled is an amazing record

 

My favourite thing Saosin did with Cove was always the Capitol Demos, which obviously was for the S/T. I think as a result I was never huge on the S/T, whereas I really loved some tracks on ISOSG.

 

I do agree not a lot of bands were doing the TTN sound around 2003 but I'd also put Funeral for a Friend up there as pioneers of the 'screamo' genre.

 

Funeral For A Friend and Alexisonfire are underrated. I barely see talks about them anymore. They should be scene staples.

 

100% back both of these bands for helping start the post-hardcore/metal-core movement.
