"Outbound Train" is definitely the strongest track on the second half, but even then it doesn't resonate with me like it seems to for many of you guys here, where like 14 or so of the b-sides really do blow me away. I've tried to give the rest of Prisoner a chance, but so far it just hasn't clicked for me.

I really think he just hit my sweet spot with the sound he was going with for parts of Prisoner but basically all of the b-sides.

I was going through some of the Live After Deaf recordings this morning and was reminded of this:

I'm so glad that RA gained a sense of humor over the past years because he is hilarious

Well that was easily the best show I've been to. Also he was hilarious. It was like part stand up comedy.

So on a misguided whim yesterday, I purchased 2 fan presale tickets to the Ryan Adams/Middle Kids show in Houston on Oct. 7th............without realizing I already have ACL tickets for that entire weekend. I'm an idiot.

Feeling out if there's any Houstonians or Texans in here interested in 2 tix to that show?

He's having a rough time right now, it seems like he's just lashing out. Last night on Instagram he posted an old photo of him and Mandy and then deleted it. He also posted a photo of a shovel at his feet which seemed symbolic.

He did a Twitter Q&A late last night and some of his answers were bleak (including one that said he was hurt pretty bad by Jason Isbell's song Chaos and Clothes). He also posted a tweet with a photo of himself that said something like "TFW John Mayer calls you during a tour/life breakdown." Looks like most if not all of those tweets are gone now, though.

he's really going on a rant now...

    sigh

I saw him Saturday night and he was pretty spectacular but he did seem a bit off in body language/demeanor. He hardly spoke which surprised me due to his normal reputation, and I guess now it could make sense that something is up. Hope everything's okay with him

I mean, the Strokes are the most overrated band of the past 25 years so he's not wrong.

I touched on this in The Strokes' thread, but I'm genuinely worried about Ryan. Part of me wants to think he just got around to reading what exactly is in the book that came out recently. In my opinion a lot of what was written about Ryan makes him out to be a scapegoat for other people's problems.

I also saw some tweets people sent to Ryan today. They were incredibly mean spirited and pertaining to his ex wife. It's a shame, and I certainly hope this can all be resolved.

Twitter is full of hack music writers who thrive on petty bullshit drama no one will remember in two months so naturally they're milking this.

Legit some dickhead was like "it's not too late to join team Mandy!!". So tacky and mean-spirited. God I hate that territorial "team" mentality that's so rampant on twitter now. Shit's so unbearable.

I replied to that woman. It blew my mind that someone could go that low. Definitely a bit too much of a cheap shot towards Ryan who was merely critiquing The Strokes..

I'm worried about him, too. I wonder if it's better for his mental health to be on tour right now or to be at home... I'm sure there are pros and cons to both.

I remember reading about all of the work that he put into healing himself and getting himself better around the time of Ashes & Fire... I wish he'd take care of himself now like he did back then. Although really I'm sure he gets annoyed with fans talking about his mental health like this online, but when it's so clear that he's not in a good place, it's kind of inevitable.

Fucking right? Like I said, The Strokes have about one and a half good albums and as far as I'm concerned don't deserve near the amount of veneration that's been heaped on them. I'd say the same for Alt-J, but they have less than zero good songs so I'm fully okay with when he shit on them.

I'm upset at myself for not getting to the Prisoner b-sides sooner, 4 tracks in and these are so damn good

I found the QC comment I saw earlier funny. I completely agree.

Magnolia Mountain & Sweet Illusions are the perfect 1-2 opening to an album. I love Cold Roses so much.

He's been on a nearly flawless streak since the S/T record. I hate to accuse him of being less prolific these days (considering the 7" series, 1989 cover, and Prisoner B-Sides interspersed between his own full length releases), but he has been way more consistent.

Sure, it was impressive that he could do 29, Cold Roses, & Jacksonville City Nights in a single year. But for my money, there were 2 discs worth of really solid material across all those releases; the majority of them being contained on Cold Roses. I kind of felt the same way about IV/V / Easy Tiger / Cardinology. Don't get me wrong, there are some great songs on IV/V, but holding that back and just giving us Easy Tiger and then Cardinology was some of the best self-editing and restraint we've seen to date.

Don't get me wrong, I've grown to love most of his catalog over time, but lately everything from S/T forward has been an instant, deep connection. On more days than I'm willing to admit, I've just queued up S/T, 1989, Prisoner & Prisoner B-Sides and just let them play all the way though while doing work.
