I didn’t think it was great when I originally saw it, before TLJ came out. I’m comparing it to TLJ because it’s the gold standard of the Disney era lol

 

I love Rogue One, but I think it had potential to be an absolute masterpiece and instead, after all of the tinkering, it ended up a cool movie with a fun ending.

I hate that they took the film away from Gareth Edwards and changed it so much, but then most people say the ending is the best part of this movie, and it seems like he ending is what was most heavily changed.

I can't really say they made the wrong call from a financial standpoint, but they definitely made the wrong call from a 'Movie I Personally Want To Exist So I Can Watch It' standpoint.

There was a lot written around that time about what the changes were, even though I know all of that needs to be taken with a grain of salt and we can't be 100% sure with those types of things. Also, Tiny Gilroy wasn't shy at all about talking about what wasn't working with the film originally and what he needed to change and how he saved the day.

 

The trailer has a lot of intriguing scenes that did not make the final cut.

 

The final battle was definitely changed around a lot. There was supposed to be a scene where they charge the beach D-Day style. The scene with Jin on the tower was also changed.

 

this and TLJ are the only post-OT films i’d put in my top five.

I’d swap Ep 1 and TFA, and TLJ with RoTJ and that’s my ranking. Really everything after TFA in my version of the ranking are films I’d never want to watch again.

 

If I never see any SW movies again except for the original trilogy, I’d be completely 100% fine. But if I could pick a bonus fourth movie, it’d easily be TFA.
