I just started it and have noticed this a lot already too. I like how it uses the inter monologue pretty often so you can transfer a lot of those moments to the movie's quieter moments seamlessly.

I really like their point about the two actions scenes and the lack of dialogue in the one and its impact on the scene.

Yeah, he says a lot of what has been said in this thread about the characters being uninteresting, as well as their motivations being sort of unclear. Definitely agree with that, but I was a little iffy about his whole "context" argument. Everything he was saying was true, but I mean, come on. We don't need the force explained to us and we don't need the Death Star to be blown up IN the movie to be satisfied with the end.

Just watched it for the third time and really enjoyed it. I felt more connected to the characters this time, although I admit it's probably due to seeing it for the 3rd time and having read the novelization along with other canon material relating to this.

I've seen a lot of people talking about the themes of this movie being trust and sacrifice, but to me a big theme is identity. Throughout the first half of the film who are trying to carve out some purpose for themselves. Jyn is going by fake names, Krennic is trying to establish his purpose in the Empire, hell even the Rebel alliance as a whole has an identity crisis (different agendas for missions, some wanting to fight while others don't). But everyone seems to find it in the end.

Finally got to see it this past weekend, and thought it was pretty good. Didn't get as attached to the characters like I was hoping I would, but I definitely enjoyed the film overall.

Also, I thought the Darth Vader scene at the end was badass. Can't wait to watch that again.

I agree with that point as well. It's another small detail that could have informed the characters and improved the chemistry slightly. But I still feel I connected with the characters enough to make the rest of the story interesting. I don't agree with his point on context though. There's very few people who would go into this without knowing the basic details of the Star Wars universe. Could you imagine if we had to hear them explain the force in every single movie?

Pretty much what I was saying as well. "You mean they didn't blow up the Death Star and we have to watch ANOTHER movie for that?" Yes. Yes, you do.

I just watched for the first time. Did anyone else get some LOTR vibes? I loved how the group got together, the mission, the sacrifices, I feel like the characters in this movie were more interesting than in TFA and I could've had a trilogy about them instead.

Second viewing was even better (went to IMAX for the first time, in 3D as well). However the Tarkin CGI was wayyy more noticeable

Would you recommend seeing it again if I saw it in 3D the first time? I felt like I was trying to focus my eyes the whole time.

I normally won't do 3D unless its for a second viewing of something. The IMAX 3D was great but I definitely prefer just a regular ol' screen

Saw it in IMAX on Christmas...Merry Christmas to me! If you haven't seen it in IMAX yet, do yourself a favor and do it. The battle scenes where they put you in the cockpit of X Wings were incredible.

I thought the movie was great, especially for what it was made to be. Thought it set up A New Hope beautifully.

Ahh, this really sucks. Such a funny, kind soul. Thought they said she was out of extensive care too? I also wonder what it may mean for Leia if she was required for Ep 9 (ie Paul Walker style shoot?).
    RIP.

She was a brilliant comic actress. Oscar worthy comedic performance in Hannah and Her Sisters. Hilarious in the Star Wars movies, Blues Brothers, Catastrophe, and 30 Rock. I know she's Princess Leia and that means more than anyone can adequately convey, but dive into a really underrated body of work if you can. She was a supreme talent as a performer and writer, she was one of the most respected script doctors in Hollywood.

    This fucking sucks.

I mean they just CGI-d an entire character for this film and even CGI-d a young Carrie Fisher. The only question is would it be too soon or be seen as disrespecting to just digitally replace her. Obviously I think it would be incredibly disrespecting and it's a scary prospect to just replace someone like that.
