Yea, it was a weird set up, odd scene, and lacked any sort of payoff.

If that tentacle thing was piloting an A-Wing I would have been all for it.

The tentacle monster was just there to please the tentacle fetish community.

Hm, not sure what to think, need to see it again. There were some odd edits and score choices at times plus some clunky lines, delivery/dialogue and acting choices. Definitely enjoyed Force Awakens more on the initial viewing. The Destroyers crashing into each other and that final Vader scene were incredible.

I listened to FPJ on the Truehoops podcast and he mentioned that Dave Filoni had a huge part in the climactic space battle and I can't help but think the coup de grace was his idea. It was very Rebels and I think just an amazing way to resolve the situation rather than a few torpedoes or something like that.

He apparently rolls by when the communication officer runs to report to Mothma.

Filoni needs to do some live action Star Wars already. His work in Rebels has earned him a shot. Even live action tv would suffice.

They could really make a marketable big budget tv series out of a Star Wars plot. I think we'll be seeing one or more sometime. I'd be interested.

He does. He's on the left side and you hear one of his signature fart-bot noises in the background. I noticed him the second time.

I just got out. This was great. The first two acts were a little clunky and the pacing wasn't great, but holy shit the entire ending perfect. Going to see it again already tomorrow.

Also I'm sure this was probably mentioned in here already but The announcement over the PA on Yavin 4 for General Syndulla was a cool little easter egg for Rebels fans! I''m sure there's more in there.

My thoughts exactly. The first half was paced way to fast, I would have liked a little more time with the characters at the start, but they just kept jumping from planet to planet. But the ending was so so so good. The score wasn't great. I wonder what it would have been like with more time to compose.

  16. I liked this a lot - not quite as much as Force Awakens on first viewing - but still a lot. Like pretty much everyone has said, the action scenes and production design were incredible all the way through. The only time Tarkin felt really off to me was his first scene, and I think that was because he was pacing and moving around so much. It felt like he was floating more than actually walking then, but whenever he was standing still he looked fine. My only real complaint about the movie is that I wanted more time with every main character, especially Riz Ahmed's, but overall I'm really happy with how this turned out.

I agree with you that this is great and the last half feels very ANH like in pacing, but the first half? Not at all. A New Hope was actually pretty slow until we get to the Millennium Falcon. We spend so much time just getting to know Luke, the droids and Obi-Wan. This is extremely fast by comparison. After the opening scene, we're jumping all over the place getting introduced to all these characters. There's little break between any of the action to actually get to know the characters. I would have liked it to slow down and catch its breath just a little bit. Reading Catalyst before definitely necessary in my opinion because it gives you more backstory to quite a few of the character relationships.

But honestly, the third act is just so damn perfect that it makes up for all that.

They keep playing the prequels on TNT and holy shit this CGI is terrible. I don't remember it being this bad.

I unfortunately agree with him. There were points where it took me out of the movie. But again, they hd so little time to compose it, so I'm not going to fault Giacchino too much for it.

I remember it looking great when they first came out, but damn did that CGI age terribly.
