I was, and still am, very apprehensive about the idea of a shitload of Star Wars spinoffs but I have to admit this looks pretty fantastic.

I wonder how hard they'll work to make sure everyone knows that this isn't part of the main series though. I already foresee people being disappointed that this doesn't continue Rey and Kylo's story.

This would be one reason to put a tag teaser on this after the credits. I doubt they will do anything like that though and just hope people are smart enough to figure it out. Sure, people who never see a trailer and trot into the theatre because they see Star Wars on the title might be initially disappointed that it isn't Episode VIII, but they're smart enough to catch up pretty quickly and as long as it's a good movie I'm sure they won't mind that much.

They are replacing 6 miles of pipe by my place and it's going to take 2 years to complete. Spending 19 years on a massive battle station seems like a quick turnaround!!

  5. I've been thinking about this too, especially because I got a text from my girlfriend after she watched the trailer asking where Rey was.

But, after you told your girlfriend about it, she understood it, correct? That's all it takes. Then they're either on board or they're not. It's not as huge a problem as everyone is making out to be, I really believe.

  7. Totally. I still think it's a non-trivial thing for marketing though, since they can't just call it a prequel. Not that it will probably affect the box office either way.

Do you guys think that the man reading the charges at the beginning is the dude that is with Mon Mothma in the Rebel base? I don't think it sounds like him when comparing the clip he speaks on and the narration from the beginning. I think that the movie has a chance to open with the Rebels breaking her out of Imperial custody and that the man reading the charges is actually an Imperial. I think that would be a really cool opening scene and a great way to start off the movie.

This is kind of what I was thinking as well. It would explain to me why she's in handcuffs in those opening shots as well.

The guy reading the charges sounds A LOT like Agent Kallus from Rebels.

Oh wow! Now, that sounds intriguing. I can get behind that.

    Think of this way:

    9 movies at an average ticket price of $8.61 = $77.49 over a 12 month period = $6.45 a month.

9 movies with an average length of 130 minutes = $0.59 a minute of entertainment.

My movie costs will be slightly higher as I'll be seeing a few of these movies in IMAX, some I may see more than once. But even still, the cost total for just watching them won't be that expensive. Even with refreshments.

However, factor in merchandise and the eventual Star Wars land at the Disney amusement parks "family vacation" and overall cost of travel and things add up.

I don't think they care if people know when this movie takes place. If anything they probably want new fans of TFA to come see this hoping for all their new favorite characters.

I had no idea about the timeline of this movie, but I understood perfectly after watching the trailer, and I'm not a big Star Wars fan.

Maybe it's nitpicky but that would bother me a little. Obviously it matters how it's done, but one of the Star Wars franchises biggest flaws is that it has yet to let any movie stand alone, completely divorced from its iconic original main characters. Let this movie be this movie. Let this movie be about these people. I don't need to be reminded that Han Solo is out there running around too.
