Not sure it means anything but Free Throw replied to one of their sassy comments late last night.

I will drink a beer if it's this week.

I wouldn't say that just yet. Give 'em another hour or two.

I will also drink a beer if it's this week. Or if it's not.

    It's chaos. Be kind. Prestigious

Not to add to the conspiracies, but someone said that the reason the announcement is being held up is because Neil Young is a headliner. I guess he had a show in the area get cancelled and they're rescheduling?

He had a show postponed two weeks ago for illness. I would be very surprised if Neil Young is a headliner at Riot Fest.

If I had to guess it's actually the machinations behind placement on the lineup that is holding things up. That shit always causes nightmares.

I've been wondering this as well. It's been interesting seeing some of the headliner predictions people have laid out over the last few days where I've been like: "My gut says no but... maybe the artist is swinging for it?"

And there's a few artists in the mix that could be in the "battling over set time" category. I could see St. Vincent being in that category (maybe not necessarily headliner but maybe Riot support versus stage closer elsewhere). I saw Kid Cudi tossed out as a potential headliner last night and I dunno if he's at that level but his last tour was meant to be in stadiums so if he's signed on I could see him wanting to take that swing.

That's just two possible scenarios toward the top of the poster that I could see happening (and TBH, I could be totally missing the mark with those; I enjoy both artists but don't follow them all that closely). That Jane's Addiction tour date, like you pointed out last week, could have been the result of a similar situation.

    The intrusive whisper fascinates me

No Chicago date for The Jesus Lizard’s tour which solidifies them, I think. Although when asked about it in the comments, they replied “working on it!”

To me, them saying "working on it" makes it even more likely. Haha.

Just got an email from RF plugging the Sepultura show. No mention of a lineup announcement. I think best case at this point might be pre announcement this afternoon/evening and lineup tomorrow, but we’ll see.

Exactly. It's why Paramore dropped off Lolla last year, every festival has to fight with this every year. 2013 continues to be in my memory bank because I was told by a friend who then worked for RF that the reason they couldn't release the schedule until the week of the festival was they were working out who would play after GWAR. Originally it was Joan Jett, she said absolutely not, so they put Reggie on as the stage closer after GWAR.

    Things have changed.

Kid Cudi's arena tour was promptly canceled – in part because he was injured but that was a blessing in disguise because it was selling like shit. He's not a festival headliner.

I always thought that was because of a fear of slipping on goo or whatever and not actual set times, though? Either way. It's a good example. Haha.

Y'know, I had an inkling that was the case because the dates weren't postponed but were just outright cancelled... But I didn't have the evidence to back it up. Haha.

Just wasted 20 minutes debating a Slayer fan as to why Paramore is/isn't big enough to headline. I kinda wish certain people would just admit they're sexist, don't understand the current music landscape, and never attend this festival again. LOL

Paramore would be a "lame" headliner because they closed out Rise in 2017. But Slayer doing a "final Chicago show" in 2019 and coming back to headline again in 2024 is a totally dope "nostalgia" booking. GTFO.

It makes even less sense considering that Slayer was a stage closer but not a headliner in 2014. So you can’t even use that argument against them when defending Slayer.

Wasn’t about to argue with the guy that thinks St Vincent is a big enough headliner.

That guy isn’t a riot fest historian like us I guess. He seems to think that Riot wouldn’t have someone as a headliner that only closed a stage before. But they have done that at least three times that I can think of without even looking into it (Slayer, The Flaming Lips, and Weezer).

TBH, the guy's pretty much just an Internet troll and he's not very good at it. Which is the only reason I'm engaging. His takes are perpetually terrible. In this case, though, he's being very earnest. I think it's some latent sexism with a hint of "rockism" and his own taste bleeding into his takes.

If Saint Vincent is big enough to headline, then Paramore is objectively a big enough headliner.

    That's a great point, hah!

my whole idea is that if Slayer were still relatively active and touring, I personally believe that Paramore would have a bigger draw. I think part of what makes Slayer shiny and enticing to headline is that they aren’t doing many shows. I could be wrong.

I mean, you are right, they were never headliners of big metal festivals until their farewell tour, beforehand they close a side stage or played before a headliner. Im not sure, but I dont think they play that many arenas before neither

Honestly, Paramore's probably a bigger draw than them even with that in play. In part because they keep the mystique about their band high on a regular basis. You never know when they're going to retreat and take a few years off. Hah.

But yeah, prior to their farewell tour (and this "not at all part of the original plan when they did that last tour" reunion) they weren't really all that big. Not small but certainly not a headliner.

I would put money on Slayer having the smallest headliner crowd of the weekend.
