Yeah, that 2017 line-up drop caught me off guard in the best way! I remember zooming in on "Jawbreaker," taking a picture with my phone and texting like 12 of my friends. Haha. I couldn't believe it... And I still kinda can't. They were always the one band I thought I'd never see. And now I've seen them three times. Thanks, Riot Fest!

(Fast-forward 6 hours and my girlfriend at the time was calling me a "loser" and telling me I was "immature" for wanting to spend my time/money attending. It was the beginning of the end and I think that's why I'm most thankful for Jawbreaker getting back together. Thanks to Riot Fest for ending that hellish relationship of mine when I didn't have the courage to, too! LOL)

Yeah. I was just thinking about how I saw them in 2018 and how amazing it was. That was the first show I attended after moving to SoCal. So glad they’re still doing shows!

 

Didn't Blake say they were planning on putting out a new album.. 5 years ago LOL

Jawbreaker Considering First Album Since 1995

 

Look, man. It was going to happen anyway. It just expedited things. Conversely, my partner and I went last year and had a super fun weekend!

That's great! I mean, at this point, I generally assume that most "one-off reunions" will eventually lead to touring to some extent. It makes me happy that some of these older bands are able to make it work in a way that they're able to finally get their proverbial due, find love in it again, etc.

Don’t bring too much attention to Inforoo leaks. It’s gotten people on there in trouble in the past.

 

I don’t think this is the year. LJG has been nagging at Riot to get OpIvy for years, so she was probably just joking around. Rancid has a new album out soon so I don’t think an OpIvy reunion would be on the table

“She seems to think” isn’t really as confirming as something like “she heard through the grapevine”

 

I don't know if it will ever happen or if she truly knows anything, but I did find it interesting enough to share.

I guess if anyone would know any information aside from Op Ivy themselves and Riot organizers, it would be the one famous person who has been begging for them to be booked for years.

 

Pearl Jam is out. Two shows at the United Center in early September and playing Austin during Riot weekend

 

Having listened to her in countless interviews over the last ~15+ years (some of which focused primarily around the Operation Ivy thing) and read her book...

I feel pretty confident assuming that she was joking and doesn't know anything. And was probably just trying to shut down that aspect of the conversation because she's tired of being asked about a Twitter thing that happened 2+ years ago that people won't let go of.

Doesn't mean it's not happening this year. But I don't think anything LJG said will have any regard to whether it is or isn't going down. The things that make it less likely for me, at this point, is a new Rancid album (which is always followed by a tour) and that new project Tim has with Jesse (which I kinda doubt is actually going to be a "plays shows" kinda band, TBH).

And, per usual, I want this reunion to happen just as much as anybody. Haha.

 

Do y'all think they're playing the album in full for the dates next weekend? I'm hoping for some older stuff mixed in

That's awesome. TMV are very much a "probably won't go see them on their own, but high priority on festival" band for me.

 

X are out, playing the Old Town School of Folk in July. I can't remember if they have ever played the festival before, but they would have been a cool get.

Bummer that they're out. They've played in 2013 and 2017... And they are always amazing live. Would have definitely been a nice add!

 

They also played at the Bottom Lounge in 2011 back in the indoor Riot Fest days.

 

Strictly for professional reasons I doubt she'd say anything even if she did have inside knowledge. Not only would it probably deeply hurt her relationship with RF, it would also just be pretty uncool toward the guys in Op Ivy who might want the announcement to be a bit more special than "LJG told some rando at a show just because they asked". Like even if they don't care for it to be a big announcement, it still wouldn't be hers to announce.

 

Wasn't there in 2013, but the 2017 set was awesome. Would love to see them back again.
