kind of an impossible thing to measure in any meaningful way but I dont see Pantera/punk crossover fans being drastically different than slayer or slipknot.. people will say pantera leans more 'redneck' or 'cop' (which they only barely do more than the other two) but that still doesnt take away from plenty of punk and hardcode kids gorwing up in the 90s and considering pantera as 'one of the few metal bands i actually like' or whatever. slayer probably has the most crossover, but thats because they are the more zeitgeist-y of the 3 anyways.

Wasn't trying to rag on you, I agree with what you're saying, I'm just pointing out that we've had some very doubtful things happen the past few years. On the flip side, at different points last year, some thought Greta Van Fleet, Courtney Barnett, Tenacious D were locks considering their tour schedules at the time. Also we never found out what the hell happened with Gang of Four lol. I personally hope they don't book Pantera, but we'll have to wait and see.

That's what I was getting at. I've never once been at a punk/hardcore show and heard somebody yell out "FUCK YEAH, PANTERA!" I'm sure crossover exists but... It's significantly smaller. In my experience, Slayer is the band that "won" that slot as the "metal band punk kids feel is okay to like." Anthrax and Metallica are probably right behind them. Especially in 2023 when considering how the music and image of the bands have aged...

With Slipknot, it's also important to remember they were a (relatively) last-minute replacement. They also have the benefit of the mask gimmick, irony, and the like in this context too (on top of the bangers). Which Pantera doesn't really have.

I get that there's some crossover. But I think, in the year 2023? It's nowhere near as much as it once would have been and certainly pales in comparison to the other bigger "metal" acts they've had for one reason or another.

EDIT: But also? Never say never, I guess. It's possible. Just seems like it would be a super weird booking. Especially as a headliner.

They should book Avail to do an Avril Lavigne cover set.

I'd actually watch Tim Barry do an acoustic set of Avril... maybe add in a Vitamin C and Paris Hilton cover or two

And, oddly, none of the rotating openers on that date.

I'm sure it's more likely they're Lolla/Pitchfork gets depending on who it is, like J Brekkie at Lolla.

I would spend a ridiculous amount of money to go to that.

The same way it was with Smashing Pumpkins, that was frustrating

It seems it would be Weyes Blood based on the dates before and after. So she can fit both Lolla and Pitchfork

Yep, they didn't even update the terms for FOB, still had mentions to the Pumpkins lol

Just odd that it's not announced but that is late enough that neither festival would really care once they've played, just like with Low and DCFC last year before Mimi couldn't tour anymore.

Thats true. Last year Sam Fender played Lolla and was opening for Florence + The Machine a month later (before be cancelled those shows)

No Chicago date on the Billy Idol tour. Given the way he tours, I don't think it means he's likely but... It means he's a possibility! I could see him being perfect in that early evening/just before the closer slot on any of the main stages.

Lots of potential crossover for Riot here: Siouxsie, Iggy Pop, Billy Idol, Love and Rockets, Echo and the Bunnymen, Gang of Four, the Vapors...

The fall out boy show sold out in like 3 minutes. With the amount of tickets q101 is giving away and the fact it only holds 1100 people the amount of actual tickets for sale was prolly very small
