They played Lolla in 2021 that's a quick turnaround for headliners.. stadium or multiple nights at Wrigley seem most likely I'd think

It's feasible, but for most bands I just don't see it as financially viable to drive all the way from Chicago to Virginia for a single show... I could see maybe the Pietasters or VGS taking a flight. I'm just considering all of the bands on that festival out of the mix until proven otherwise.

The Suicide Machines and J. Navarro are both playing Supernova too, so yeah... They're both out.

I had meant to say both were playing Supernova this year DURR

    The intrusive whisper fascinates me

Paramore playing Lolla, apparently. So they’re out

Someone posted this on FB. I won’t call it official until Riot says it themselves, but it’s something

yeah i'll take it with a grain of salt but that's disappointing if they aren't moving locations.

I think I'm cool with staying at Douglass. It's a bit of a pain to get to sometimes but the devil you know...

I like Douglass, but I would like it more if the fest found some way to mend relations with the neighborhood. It’d be nice if they could stay there long term for any other reason than “they paid off the alderman”.

I’m not local, but has there ever been talk of RF providing funding for increased infrastructure in the park for the community to use year round? Investing in the park in exchange for its use.

They should have Riot Fest in the Jewel/Mariano's parking lot in Roscoe Village.

To be fair, we don't KNOW that's what happened/will happen. But it IS Chicago, so it's not impossible, haha. That being said, I think we all want a long term solution that benefits the community and concert goers. I think the other festivals that have popped up in Douglass recently have hurt any goodwill RF has built up the first few years. Not to say RF hasn't slipped up as well, but when 3 or 4 festivals mess up the park/negatively impact the community, the neighborhood feels it a lot more than when it was just RF. I'm certainly not an expert but I wonder what else they can do to help build up the goodwill - new playground equipment? Re-sodding the grass? Quarterly DP beautification days?

Didn't the RF Twitter and/or Reddit person say something about how "we'll know when they know" about the location or something recently? Or was that the dates? Or is my work melting my brain and causing me to make shit up again?

From what I read last year, the narrative seemed to be more around the "number of festivals" taking up the park's space rather than just Riot. But because Riot is arguably the bigger name it was at the center of most of the articles, discussions, etc. They are also the only festival that I'm aware of that had a major PR fuck-up that was pretty gross.

It's way more complicated than anybody on this forum knows, I'm sure. Hah.

Also, anyone remember RF saying "Don't delete the app! We've got fun updates that'll include contests, giveaways, and news about next year!"? Maybe it's just me and my phone, but I haven't gotten a push notification for anything from the app since the fest. I saw the post about joining the Street Team and figured that would be something they might push out over the app.

I think we all (myself VERY included) needs to remember this.

selfishly i want it to stay in douglass cuz ive got 'enjoying riot fest' down to a science, and at a new park ill have to start from scratch, especially with where to stay, haha. i hope they truly focus on community outreach and partnership with neighbors but at the same time knowing that no matter how much good will they put out, there will alwaysssss be a vocal minority who will raise a grievance... also wouldnt hurt if one or both of those other fests dont return, lol, but i havent bother to look if either have announced yet

if they're going back to douglass i'll never attend again. i can't in good conscience continue to support a festival that only takes advantage of a poor and black and brown community like that while jamming up public transport there and causing a nightmare in traffic right in front of a hospital. not to even mention the noise pollution from the fest. it's all bad

    It's chaos. Be kind. Prestigious

Yeah, I can't do Douglass anymore. Hate the long transit walk, hate the long lines, don't like the side by side stage setup.

I went in 2021 and they didn’t have a side by side stage layout, did this change last year? Also, the walk from the train was less than 10mins, the wait to get one home was a different story lol.

2021 is the only year that I can recall at Douglas that did not have the main stages side by side.

That was the perfect setup. I truly believe if they had done it again in 2022 we wouldn’t have had the chaos in the MCR pit (and subsequently I wouldn’t have dislocated my knee)

You dislocated your knee at the MCR pit?!

I've sort of resigned myself to the fact that any set-up at any festival with more than three stages is not going to be fully ideal. There's going to be a walk longer than I'd like, lines longer than I'd like, shitty viewing due to sun at some point during the day, etc.

The stages being side-by-side is a pretty standard format and I understand why we do that. And in the end, I think it works. And I like it way better than the last year or two at Humboldt when it was like... Eight stages and you literally had to plan for a 10-15 minute walk to get anywhere else even if you were standing in the back. Even more after it rained and shit got all muddy.

It's super easy to get around and move from stage-to-stage like, 95% of the time. The remaining 5% is if you want to get anywhere near the stage for the final band of the night.
