Duran Duran & Niles Rodgers/Chic are out, playing Chicago a week after Riot..

Duran Duran at Riot would actually have been kind of fun as a headliner, but oh well.. they weren't even on my radar for the Sunday spot

Also FWIW I checked Life Is Beautiful last year, and they had zero crossovers

Looks like Flogging Molly, the Interrupters, and Tiger Army are probably out. Playing Chicago on 6/17... And also have dates on 2/3 of the days of Riot weekend.

  5. Loads (edit- okay a handful) on the LiB lineup that would be cool to see. Have we already talked about whether Arctic Monkeys are plausible headliners?

  6. They were never likely, but count Built To Spill fully out.

Jeff Rosenstock announced shows with Catbite this summer, he has a blurred date on June 19 that looks like Chicago, but It's a reschedule of the same show that was blacked out Jan 23 and I doubt Jeff was playing Chicago in January after two shows in November.. weird

  8. I was wondering the same thing. Must be one of the street fests, but Do Division is earlier, Logan Square Arts Fest is the following week, West Fest and Wicker Park Fest are in July. I think Green Music Fest was usually that weekend but I'm pretty sure that stopped happening even before the pandemic. Maybe the Goose Island mini-fest thing they do most summers?

Well, Limp Bizkit tour announced today with no Chicago-area date. So…

I’m guessing a ska dream show.

The thing is the same show was blacked out January 23.. no way it was scheduled to be outside

I think above poster is right about a Ska Dream show, but why would that be blurred

the St. Louis date of that Rosenstock tour was originally free because a local brewery was throwing itself an anniversary party, hoping thats still the case.

Gary, Indiana is the Chicago metro area show. It's way before the 90-day thing, but I think they are in Europe the week before Riot

Catbite has it listed as a free show on their site

Everclear's teasing a 30th anniversary tour, I know it's been tossed around in here in the past but it seems like a good time for them to play. I'd be really into a legacy 90s alt stage with them, Eve 6, Marcy Playground & other "one hit wonders" who are still around but don't have much of a draw anymore

Dinosaur Jr. is out. Playing the Vic on 9/30.

Isn't what you're describing the Everclear "Summerland" tour concept, though? I feel like there's a way that Riot could do it but you'd need to mix it up just a bit. Maybe by tossing in a ska band (RBF, LTJ, or Goldfinger) or a newer band doing the whole "sound like the 90s thing" (Basement, for example).

Otherwise they'd probably just tack the 4-5 bands on that tour onto the same stage which would feel really strange.

If we want to further speculate Greta Van Fleet, they just postponed their show in Flint to September 14.

There is precedent for that with entire tours making their way onto a single stage, i dont know if its ever gone 4-5 bands deep, but the slayer farewell tour was all on the main stage while riot added gwar and the hu before it. and the rancid/dkm/bronx last year, im sure there's others. i guess it would be weird if summerland called itself a 'touring fest' to be a fest with in a fest, haha

I mean, if they're playing they're already booked. But I think having them book dates just before a festival appearance would make perfect sense...

There's no way that they'd be headliner #3 though, right? I feel like they'd have to be second line. Probably first name on that line. But definitely not a headliner.

Oh, there's definitely precedent. But going 4-5 bands deep and literally having it be like the "Summerland Tour" stage for the day or whatever is a bit much. The "pop-punk" stage each year tends to have 2-3 bands on tour together, with an additional 2-3 bands on top of that.

I would argue there's even more precedent that Riot books a band or two on a single tour but not the others. Especially when the other acts aren't really Riot's aesthetic.

But still. They'd do something to make it look a little less conspicuous. A stage with just all 90s nostalgia bands with a single hit would stick out like a sore thumb in a really uncomfortable way.

(I'm not even saying that wouldn't be fun. I just don't see it happening without tweaks.)

dont remember if they have been brought up before, but Guided by Voices announced a tour thats only march-july but no chicago. so toss them on the 'possible' pile.

Oh yeah, that's what I was implying! The fact there's a date right rescheduled before the festival in the Midwest is a good indicator.

    Give what you can.

I was trying to remember the names of all the weekend street fests that usually have good bands earlier today, and I was having a lot of trouble. Thank you for this post.

Alien Lanes, Isolation Drills, or Bee Thousand would be fantastic! Both AL and BT would fit well into a 45-minute set too (with BT allowing for 3-5 additional songs)...

I'd just love for them to be there, regardless!

I don't know what their popularity level is now, but right before the pandemic Greta Van Fleet played three sold out shows at the Aragon Ballroom (5,000 capacity). I would say they are probably at the level of MGK (not a true headliner) or The Raconteurs (more of a true headliner). Having said that, I have no idea where they would land based on the two examples I listed lol.
