Riot Fest 2022 (September 16-18, Chicago IL) Festival • Page 42

Discussion in 'Tour Forum' started by troyplaysbass, Sep 28, 2021.

  1. 11+ hours from Greater Sudbury to Chicago, 13+ from there to Winnepeg.

Can anyone speak to the plausibility of it based on that?

I think if Laura is just playing solo, it'll probably be an after show.. but she does play a ton of AM deep cuts

If she has a backing band, then regular Riot is likely

I think it's just her solo, she could take a plane

Coheed is playing the Chicago area August 6 with Dance Gavin Dance & Mothica, so they are probably out

Slightly Stoopid’s usual summer tour announced today with Pepper, Common Kings and Fortunate Youth. Only half the dates are out but no Chicago so far. I’d say they’re all Riot-worthy

I don't see all 4 playing Riot but Slighty Stoopid & Pepper are very possible depending on if Chicago is one of the additional stops on the tour

Wouldn’t mind them being added if only to help with conflicts.

Give me a Ballyhoo set and I’m opening the pit up on that first upstroke and crowd killing between songs.

    It's chaos. Be kind. Prestigious

My Chem / Green Day / Misfits would be the best group of headliners Riot's ever had.

Yeah, if they secured Green Day in addition to MCR and the Misfits... That would be a 100% immediate VIP deluxe ticket purchase for me.

In other news: The Bouncing Souls are probably out. Playing Chicago twice in April. Not that an April date would preclude them, but that band has taken to touring very selectively. It's rare that they would ever play the same city twice in a year, these days, unless it was for a very meaningful support slot or something to that effect.

I would be so pumped regardless of what the rest of the lineup looks like.

Riot would completely sell out in minutes, and then some. I don’t think anything would beat that

Green Day's continuing to tease new music on Instagram as recently as today. I wouldn't be surprised if we got a new single drop in March with an announcement for an album and a brief summer tour around the same time that would be a great indicator.

    Yeah they’ve been teasing “1972” for a while… whatever that’ll be.

It’s odd that they’d be dropping new music so soon since Hella Mega didn’t end that long ago, but at the same time, they’re probably trying to make us all forget about Father Of All… ha!

I'm guessing it's a full-length. I don't see them traveling all the way to London to record a bunch of stand-alone tracks or whatever. 1972 is the year that Billie, Mike, and Tre were all born. So you kinda have to assume that whatever it is, it's gonna be dropping this year. I'm real curious to see what label they wind up putting it out on.

Billie had intimated in a few interviews that record was just to get the contract done and over with. But who knows if that was true or just bullshit. I'd like to think it is. Because Billie still has it in him to write exceptional songs that keep it interesting. The Longshot is a shining example of this...

I'm just excited that all of the clips thus far feel like Green Day. We'll see what happens!

Yeah the whole “getting off their contract” thing would be interesting since I always kinda assumed they had a good relationship with Reprise, but honestly? That probably might be it. I look forward to this new music!

Well, I don't know if it's about the relationship so much as them thinking about what they may or may not need as a band at this point. Like, what can a label do that they can't just do through their management? It might sound like an odd comparison, but that's the approach the Dropkick Murphys took after reaching a certain level.

You kinda look around and go: "Well, what's a label going to do for us that our management can't do? Might as well cut out the middleman."

If they wind up moving on from the label, I feel pretty confident that would be the reason why.

(But now we're miles away from Riot Fest so, to bring it back? The "back to the roots" approach from them after a rough album is whatI always assumed would be what it'd take to get them there. Yet I'm still sitting here like, "Nah, probably not this year." And I have no idea why haha.)

That’s the same reason I assumed they were doing some of the mid/large-tier fests this year like Shaky Knees and whatnot. I was like, “I guess since it bombed they’re trying to get some steam back.” But… they did just do Hella Mega which was probably the largest, most successful tours they’ve ever done…* But yeah, I think maybe they’re going to try a more “DIY” approach and say “fuck it” and do fests that normally wouldn’t book them.

*And you could probably contribute that to FOB and Weezer opening, I guess…

And that might be why I'm so gun-shy about getting onboard with the assumption that they're headliner #3. I've said the same things a few times over the last few years.

But TBH, I actually think the festivals they've booked thus far are kind of exactly the type of festival that would want to book them as opposed to the ones they usually play. Shaky Knees and Innings Festival both feel far more Green Day's speed than Lollapalooza or Life is Beautiful.

And if those are "more their speed," then Riot fest is 100% in their wheelhouse.

Here's another factor that could prevent them from playing Riot: Fucking Wimmer.
