I think that window was open for a small period last year, where if you bought an early bird ticket, you would also get access to that night. I'm assuming that's still the case, unfortunately.

They were scheduled for Domination Fest in Mexico City in May 2020 before it was canceled. Dave Lombardo said on a podcast a few months ago that he expects more shows. I think the contract is fulfilled, but they are certainly able to continue booking shows if they want to.

 

Well, I suppose a million dollars per booking can change things.. that's a lot of cat food and goofy horror movies for Danzig to spend his money on

 

And it works for me! I would like to keep seeing them again as long as possible. The shows have been great.

Agreed that they've gotten more relevant, but I'm not sold on them being the third headliner added to the poster. Meaning, I think we'll get a name at the same level as Smashing Pumpkins and My Chemical Romance. I could be wrong, and if I am? I'm totally okay with RTJ being #3! Haha.

But I am also assuming that if RTJ isn't third, they won't be direct support for any act, and will instead close out whatever stage it is that they're on. Which would still technically make them a "headliner."

I'm assuming that a band at RTJ's level probably have it locked into their contract that they won't play after time X. And if they are slated to be top-billed? That's probably already locked in on the contract too. So whatever comes out after the fact won't be a "dick move" so much as whatever they've previously agreed to.

I honestly have no clue. But if it's any big punk band...

...Rise Against doing an all "early years" set would be the way to fucking go, IMHO.

The thing about 'special sets' at a festival like Riot is that it needs to be worth the money and the time to prepare for it. Rise Against would be an "affordable" act that Riot Fest could get to do something like that with broad appeal that would feel special.

I think there's a better shot at this than Fall Out Boy based purely on the financials and what the band has in terms of a relationship with the festival.

How much does it REALLY cost to book your favorite band for a show?

 

That article is suuuuuper outdated, in all honesty. Prices like that fluctuate a lot.

 

Those prices are also inflated because it's through a third-party, whereas an organization like Riot Fest would typically go directly through management.

Those prices also look like the ones that I used to look at for college bookings, and when we'd get in touch with the actual artists the costs were roughly 25-50% less than what was quoted via those agencies. And in some cases far lower than what was quoted.

I'd also imagine a festival who has booked the band a bunch previously would probably get a slightly sweeter deal on a band like Rise Against who is in their "mature" stage as a band (i.e., they're popular but aren't really getting any bigger and the name doesn't pack a ton of weight because they tour regularly) compared to somebody booking them for a private function or whatever.

there's maybe 1 person I could understand for saying no to that kind of money because I think they've achieved enough through their record label and is satisfied with their place in this world, but it's hard to think of anyone other than Ian.. maybe Jello, but I think he was a fool in turning down Riot if it was just one show

 

Well, yeah. Festivals will definitely pay more. I'm sure Jawbreaker got paid more for Riot Fest than any other gig they'll play ever. And an artist like Nine Inch Nails or a Beck or a Wu-Tang Clan probably gets paid more for a festival gig than a standard tour date (where having the name on the bill adds value and there are substantially more people willing to check them out at a festival than might actually come out to a stand-alone gig).

But Rise Against definitely isn't in that category.

I was obviously coming to the festival from the UK, so I don't know the full details of your situation over there, but it seems unlikely.

 

As I’m sure EVERYONE remembers, I think it was three(?) years ago where we were all afraid it was going to rain all day Saturday and I proclaimed that it would not rain, and if I was wrong everyone could punch me in the face at the pizza party. As it turns out, it did not rain one drop and I was not punched in the face at the pizza party.

So with full understanding of the responsibility of these powers I am now here to say....Riot Fest WILL happen in 2021.

I think depending on what rise against has planned they could either play Thursday or be a sub headliner on one of the other days depending on what the rest of the lineup looks like.

 

I feel compelled to point out that Coachella was scheduled for April. And there is in no way, shape, or form that anywhere in the U.S. will be in a position to host a festival of that size in April. I wouldn't be surprised if they looked into bumping it out to the fall and couldn't due to scheduling conflicts for certain headlining/sub-headlining acts.

Looking out to later in the year, we're seeing more and more festivals announce dates for September and October. So people are feeling more optimistic. And at the moment, I see no reason not to be optimistic. But there's a lot of factors in play so it's truly hard to tell...

I think most of the folks on this thread are feeling pretty optimistic about it. But who knows?

 

I could definitely see that. And would definitely be all in if they went with an "early days" set (say, Sufferer and earlier just to be reasonable about what they might consider their "early days" for a set like that).

 

I don’t think we will ever see early days rise set. I think there’s something with contracts and Chris where they aren’t allowed to play a bunch of old stuff. As years have past the Amount of stuff off of rpm and sirens has dropped. And they never play anything off of the unraveling other then the acoustic tour from 2019

also Tim is in his 40s so idk if he wants to be screaming like that for 90 min to 2 hours a night anymore

Interesting about the Chris thing. I've never heard that before...

As for the "early days" stuff? I think there's plenty across those records that they could do that's straight melodic without the intense screaming to fill a set.
