it would be rad, tho people would complain how sunday flipped to be predominantly metal, at least at the top of the card haha

I saw The Mountain Goats last night and they need to play Riot one of these years. Hell, even this year would be dope as a late add on (since their tour here has now passed). They just "fit" as a Riot band with their style of music, John's banter, and the fact that they change their setlists every show so they would be down to do something unique for Riot like an album play.

I won tickets to see them a couple years back and they put on such a great show. It’s funny, my dad’s a big fan of theirs and I’ve known for them so many years, but seeing them live really made me like them a lot more and made me a fan. I think they’d do great at Riot

That being said, John is doing a solo tour the weekend of Riot, so I don’t believe they’ll be added. But next year would rule!

  4. I'd obviously be stoked for TMG at Riot, although I'd prefer to see them do a career-spanning set than an album play. I thought for sure they were going to play a few years ago based on their tour schedule, but they ended up doing Wicker Park Fest instead.

I would be really, really bummed if they pulled in Killswitch or another band on that Slipknot tour in favor of many of the other options we've discussed. Mostly because I feel like losing the Pixies was a big hit for my partner and I'm kinda hoping whoever they had will be enough to at least negate that. And she's about as anti-metal as it gets. Hah. Entirely possible that it happens, and I'd get it if it did... But I'd be bummed.

I guess if that happens, though, we can just get a ticket to that Bayside/Senses Fail aftershow and head there after Devo or go get good cocktails somewhere in the city. Hah.

RE: The Mountain Goats, they are a great counter-example to my usual "most nu metal bands aren't a great fit" argument. Sonically, the Mountain Goats are a little low-key to be a Riot Fest band... But when you take in all the other factors (lyrical content, history, vibe/stage banter) they are pretty much a perfect fit.

Also, I’m hoping The Mountain Goats play someday because that way Jon Wurster will officially have a Riot Fest trifecta of bands he’s in that have played Riot (Superchunk and Bob Mould)

Hear me out. a stage one day that has a run of Lucero -> Orville Peck -> Laura Jane Grace solo -> Mountain Goats -> Dolly Parton.

So Chad Gilbert just posted this. It’s clearly updated to include Less Than Jake being on the tour. Notice that there’s no asterisk for Riot Fest?

Pegboy just got added to Punk Rock Bowling the weekend after Riot. Still holding hope that we see them or Raygun on for Thursday!

I feel like the order would be different and you'd have to add another opener: Sincere Engineer, Laura Jane Grace, Lucero, Orville Peck, Mountain Goats, Dolly Parton

Six band main stages are rare, but I'd imagine you could have the first four just do 45 minutes and make it work. (And all would be willing to do it!)

That poster's been that way since it was first announced. LTJ shared it along with the news, emphasizing in the text of the post that they would not be on Riot Fest. Kind of a weird look to not add it for clarity, but y'know...

If we're doing theoretical Dolly Parton stages...

Los Straitjackets -> Low Cut Connie -> Orville Peck -> Jenny Lewis -> Kurt Vile -> Dolly

Islands in the Stream w/ Orville, 9-5 w/ Jenny, and everyone comes out at the end to do Coat of Many Colors

I saw the new Candyman and someone wears a Naked Raygun t-shirt. I'm going to take that as a sign that they get announced today.

That'd be nice. The Twitter seems more active, but they just pushed the Riot Fest Puppy of the Week so that probably means we're waiting until early next week...

They don't tend to mix announcements and community initiatives on the same day.

are we still lucky to be here? Prestigious

I know I'm in the minority, but the more out of place metal Riot Fest adds, the better in my book.

I get that appeal, and I know there's plenty of metal/hard rock fans in the Riot Fest fanbase. But I'm also fo the mindset that those bands have their own festivals. The DW fests, Blue Ridge, etc. all cater to that genre and its various sub-genres.

I love the fact that Riot brings in a few harder acts each year. But adding too many would fuck up the mix a bit, IMHO.

Radkey is a sweet add-on to that show! Depending on how the schedule shakes out, that might push me to get a ticket to that particular after show.

Completely agree here, but wish more of the “heavy” bands they did book were from the punk world rather than the metal world. I would love to see more hardcore at riot fest, and I feel like they’re maybe missing an opportunity to add more metalcore with warped tour gone.

Well that kind of seems like a lock then, given the history of those fests together. I like the Lips quite a bit, but I can't say I'd be all that excited about it this time.

Also no one here probably cares but that means they're playing Summerfest the same weekend as Miley Cyrus. They better not do any Dead Petz when I'm not there

I feel like Orville Peck is too high in that lineup. I would probably move LJG to the slot between Peck and tMG.

Orville Peck sold out his Lolla aftershow at Thalia Hall pretty immediately. He’s playing bigger venues than LJG does solo so I’d say he is slotted correctly.

It's really weird for me to see how people suddenly want to see Eve 6 just because they got big on Twitter. It's still the same music.
