People are suggesting a Jimmy Eat World Bleed American set and honestly don't think I would want that, selfishly. I like that them playing that album a few weeks ago was a surprise exclusive one off, and it would kind of suck the coolness out of it if they played it in full other places.

    "I'll chew on a dog!"

I totally get that, but I want others to experience the fun that I had screaming out every fucking word.

I'd take any Jimmy Eat World set.

Trading Pixies for Janes & Alkaline Trio would be an amazing upgrade for my tastes!

I mean, I kinda get that. But I also don't think it would cheapen it. Hah. Especially since it was a surprise!

That being said: I kinda feel like JEW are the kinda band who would stick to their word on that kinda thing so I'm not really anticipating that.

    Same!

    Holy shit

Hell, even him just doing a polka medley of all the headliners/bigger bands would be incredible

  8. wonder if Slipknot will still play?

Roddy from Faith No More/Man On Man shared that he tested positive for COVID. I doubt that’ll affect their appearance, but still, something to note…

He's vaccinated and has a mild case. Their Riot set is a little over 4 weeks away. I would bank on Slipknot still playing.

But fuck. Wild that another bigger band tested positive for COVID...

His statements are conflicting though. He says it's just like the flu but also says he's very very sick which implies it's bad. So who knows.

Feel like the lineup is going to be in a state of flux up until the week of the show. This will be my first Riot Fest, and I'm traveling from CA. I'm super stoked to get out there and have fun with everyone.

Definitely seems like the RF organizers are doing everything they can to put on the best festival possible given the circumstances. Keeping the faith it all works out!

HEY REMEMBER WHEN I WAS LIKE "WHAT ABOUT A SONIC YOUTH REUNION?" HMM???

The sources are probably just assuming because both members will be in the area around the same time, but maybe there is more to this...

    Interesting…

Which members? Thurston, and who else?

Pretty sure Sonic Youth is still an exclusive to Primavera Sound. beyond that, this person posting does a lot of light trolling on Reddit. Most of which has nothing to do with music.

That happened in Chicago less than a month ago

Haha good to know. The Primavera Sound exclusive band is actually Pavement though, not Sonic Youth.

Yes I was there haha, I was saying them doing it again other plays would make it less "cool" that I got to see their only full playthrough of it in a long time.

Same fucking thing. Haha. Not really, though. Fuck. My bad. LOL I'd be more into Pavement, TBH.

    Give what you can.

Agreed. And I feel like a dick saying I hope Slipknot cancels, but seeing Weird Al just going to town on his accordion to one of their songs would be incredible. He could even bring up one of those plastic garbage cans and bang on it so it's like the real thing.

I’m still not convinced that a Sonic Youth reunion will ever happen. I think there’s still a lot of bad blood between Thurston and Kim (for, well, obvious reasons), and so I think that alone will make it never come to fruition.

I could imagine Lee joining Thurston for a few SY songs at a solo show, or solo festival appearance. And I think that almost happened a few years ago at Levitation Fest in Austin before the whole fest got cancelled. (Both of them were booked to play solo sets on the same day, so you know they were practically setting it up to happen. Haha)

I could maybe see Lee and Thurston doing a “Lee And Thurston play the songs of Sonic Youth” set, or something like that happening too, but at the same time, I also think Lee still has a good relationship with Kim, and I’m sure doing that would completely sour it

But who knows! Anything is possible, honestly

I know Al has been a big "want" for Riot Fest attendees, and this thread specifically for a while. I would be shocked if Riot hadn't tried to book him yet...

I feel like it's only a matter of time. And I'm very convinced that they had him booked for 2020 and he was the act that "books way out in advance." His tour announcements usually include like, 10-16 months worth of dates. I'd imagine he's tricky to book for a festival given all the costume changes, etc.

But I legit believe that if he were to play Riot Fest he could become a "regular" in the same vein as GWAR and Andrew W.K. Where it borders on irony, but there's a true passion/excitement for the artist at the same time.

But I also have 25+ bootleg tracks, demos, and unreleased covers on an external hard drive so... I'm a bit biased because I'm a super fan. Haha.
