i think its just an assumption because their last string of shows pre-pandemic were all just the new album + a some covers. but i cant imagine them doing the exact same set for both riot and the after show, but anything is possible i guess.

They stated it when before their first run of “reunion” shows

I would be far more stoked for a Bungle reunion if it were the original lineup and they were actually playing stuff from their albums, but the whole “3 of the original guys with two thrash metal legends play music from an obscure demo” doesn’t really do it for me

I mean, it’s a cool concept, and I would like to check them out at Riot, but yeah…

I was very much on the fence about wanting to see them, but this pushes me over to the "no thanks" category.

That sort of thing is really cool for people who are already fans, but for someone like myself who is passively interested and only really cares about a few songs on each of the albums? Zero interest now.

Really, really cool for anyone who is a superfan of theirs, though!

The're already selling t-shirst online. Hah. This is way more humorous than it has any right to be given how long ago "that" press conference took place. I love it.

Now that we've sorted out what Mr. Bungle isn't playing... Let's get those album plays!

So, just for fun. I mapped out what we might expect/anticipate in terms of the order of announcements. I can't quite tell what the timeframe is going to be because it's all out of whack this year, anyway, but here's my guess...

    1. Album plays for the festival proper (mid-July). Assuming this will come first as it'll be another "headline grabber" and they can use this to push ticket sales. Might even offer a limited time reduce rate or something to coincide with the announcement (since the "extremely limited" number of tickets they had on-sale didn't quite go as far as expected). Also anticipating that this comes with a teaser, and maybe some hints for what to expect on Thursday at the very end of the announcement.

    2. Additional late-night shows (late July). Probably 2-3 more for Friday and Sunday. Maybe 1-2 more for Saturday (though that one is already loaded). And I suspect we'll see one being added for Thursday with another tease about the preview party ("For those of you who aren't partying with us at the super exclusive preview party...").

    3. Thursday line-up announcement complete with all details (e.g., start time, album plays/special sets, any other "cool surprises" they may have planned like special vendors or whatever). Probably in early August.

    4. List of food vendors in mid-August

    5. Festival schedule in late August

If we don’t get album-plays this week, I sure as hell hope we get them next week

I kinda stopped using Twitter recently, so can anyone confirm if RF’s Twitter account is being snarky?

No snark. But I'm not sure that applies to album plays, TBH. It's mostly been just show announcements that Smashing Pumpkins contest, and volunteering info.

I'm currently looking at cheap airbnb rooms...BUT if they announce an SP Mellon Collie album play I'm booking a 5 star luxury hotel and treating this weekend like the royalty that it is.

"Riot Fest Presents." Makes me wonder why Real Friends and Action/Adventure arent on the bill, they would be amazing additions (for me at least lol).

Real Friends is in the same tour are State Champs, Four Year Strong and Just Friends and all of them are playing Riot. Maybe they have a secret set at Riot like Taking Back Sunday did a few years ago?

When they sell this show out I'm sure they'll do something on the Saturday. Would be odd if they didn't

As fans, we're always quick to say "this makes no sense" when bands play a city like, a week ahead of a festival or whatever. Especially when touring is slow.

But there's so many reasons bands might not be able to make it happen. A wedding for a friend/family member of a band member. Studio time. Maybe the "deal" just couldn't get worked out the way they wanted it to (e.g., MxPx has said they don't play certain festivals because they don't get the time slots and money they want). There's so many reasons bands might say no... Or just might not be offered.

In the case of Real Friends, it feels like they probably would have had to play super early in the day. So playing a headlining show kinda makes sense, TBH. "What time slot do you want us to play? Oh, we can do that or headline our own show the week before our main tour start? K. Let's just do that."

Doubtful. "Secret" sets aren't really a Riot Fest thing. That was a one-off and I'm still a little confused as to how and why it happened. Haha.

Could see them headlining an aftershow (maybe with Just Friends?)

Or a co-headliner with Knuckle Puck. Lotta history there, plus almost a 1:1 fan-crossover

Mayday Parade replaced Saves The Day on Chain Fest in October and are playing A Lesson In Romantics. Wonder if that’ll be a Riot album-play?

I'd much rather they didn't play that again, honestly.

That would make sense. If I'm being totally honest... The album plays that are looking pretty likely don't do much for me.

The long shots (e.g., Smashing Pumpkins, Circle Jerks, Sublime with Rome) would get me stoked but I'm really not thinking any of those are going to happen.

There's plenty of bands I'd love to see albums from but most of those aren't even in the running.

That’s why I’m so intrigued/impatient this year, ANYTHING could be in play for an album play… I’m dying to know haha

If they do that I would be fine with it, it will be one less conflict to deal with as I saw them playing it in 2017
